Formula for IBD Accumulation Distribution (A..E)

I would like to get the formula for the IBD Acc/Dist Term.

The only information so far is from the IBD University, IBD Key Term:

„Accumulation/Distribution (Acc/DisTM) Rating

Exclusive rating in Investor's Business Daily. One of the IBD SmartSelect® Corporate Ratings, it tracks the relative degree of institutional buying (accumulation) and selling (distribution) in a particular stock over the last 13 weeks. Updated daily, stocks are rated on an A+ to E scale.
A = Heavy buying
B = Moderate buying
C = Equal amount of buying and selling
D = Moderate selling
E = Heavy selling
The rating is enhanced by "+" and "-" signs to show additional detail on institutional activity; a "B+" indicates greater accumulation than a "B" rating, whereas a "B-" indicates less accumulation than a "B" rating, and so on. „

Keep away from Automated Forex trading system and EAs

When you are searching for the best trading in the Forex platform, you may have come over some app. Some of the app says, they offer advice from forex system which is very accurate and you can put your trade in an automatic mode. Your profit will build up in no time.

This is the Automated Forex trading system. It is popularly known as the Forex robots. It is an app which will persuade you to integrate an app in your trading system. This app (so they say) will show you the market movement, show you how possible movement and even suggest you the trading price to bid and ask. Would you fall for this trading robot in Forex?

No, don’t fall for Forex robots
You must not fall for this Forex robots. It is seen that many Forex robots are scammed, they are plugged into your online trading platformand blow your entire trading account. If not that, they are sometimes heard to show fake charts on your trading screen. They will show you with an attractive signal and advice you to trade your bid or ask at that price level. Sometimes, the signals don’t even exist. If you look at the professional traders in Singapore then you will notice that none of them don’t use automatic system and that’s why the success rate in forex trading in Singapore is high. The EAsmight often show you the signal of only a partial timeframe. These Forex robots are not generous people who are crying to help you out in this Forex industry and put their soul in peace, in fact, they are trying to scam your money out. Before you think Forex robots are good, they are showing a signal pattern and future price level, remember that all is just an illusion.

Forex robots are scams: These robots are a very scam. They are a third-party app, trying to install on your online trading platformfor their own benefit. If they were really trying to improve your Forex profit, they would not require you to sign up for any amount of money. Also, if you do some research on the web, you will find that they are fake, showing you a signal that is false and very unsustainable. The Forex industry is changing rapidly and they are unsustainable. If not that, you would not need to trade with yourself, you would not have to come to this article, reading about Forex robots. If robot can ensure you 100 percent profit then high class brokers like Saxo wouldn’t spend huge amount money and afford on their robust online trading platform. They know the professional traders will ask for excellent trading tools and precise charting in the platform but not the automatic system to make profit.

Your money, your decision: Another reason not to use the Forex robots is that your money is traded by with some peculiar program. You earned this money for trading by yourself, not to give it into a hand of a robot. Use your brain and chart on the screen to make a trade. If you lose money, no problem since you will gain experience and eventually learn how to execute the perfect trades in the market. It is better to use your own money by drinking champagne than giving it to the waiter as a tip.

In summary, the mesmerizing app that they are telling you to install doesn’t have AI often known as artificial intelligent, it is merely an app, made of some codes and scripts. Do use your brain. If it was an AI, there were things to consider. Until there is no true AI Forex robot, do not with forex robots since it’s a waste of time money and effort. Rather buy forex educational course or seek help from the professional broker, it will be more beneficial for you.

Trading Room: Trading Mission

[The purpose of this post is not to promote the room but to ask feedback about it :)]

Recently i came across a trading room that has been running for the past 2-3 years. It focuses on intraday trading in (mostly) crude oil futures.

The room is run by a trader named Carloz Diaz and the name is 'TradingMission'. The subscription runs at $300/month.

Has anyone subscribed to the room previously (or currently)? If so, it would be great if you were willing to share some feedback on the room, either here on this thread or via PM.

Many thanks in advance,
George

Blown Up

Hi All

Being a good journey , off to a great start 18% up but have learnt the hard way and blown the account up in 2 days. Tumbled back to the starting point so not lost anything but lost the profits.

Lesson learnt is discipline as when the going was good let temptation get the better of me and took to much of a risk and let trades over run instead of quitting at a sensible target.

Will stick to my plans and targets in future:p

Hello all,

I wanted to know if there is a way to program hotkeys in Sterling Trader to put a stop limit when I go long. Can this be done in one step or do I have to use one hotkey to go long then another programmed hotkey to enter my stop ?

Thoughts ?

What's the spread on a quarterly GBP/USD bet on IG?

Hi,

I've been unable to find this out from their website without making an account.

I'm just curious to know: what is the spread on a quarterly bet for GBP/USD?

Ideally I'd like to know for close/far quarter or however it works?

Ideally I'd like to know what the spread is for the DFB as well.

I'm trying to price up an idea but can't be bothered to make a whole account just to see if it's viable.

Many thanks.

What is the best way to cut reduce short term whipsaw trades?

In a development strategy, trades <= 5 bars most often lose while > 5 bars the majority make money. If I widen the stops for 5 bars after every trade this removes the shorter trades but they become losing 6 bar trades as the trades just get delayed until after the stop widening ceases on the 6th bar. What is the best way to reduce short whipsaw trades like this without just shifting the losses elsewhere? Even a 5% reduction in whipsaws would lead to a big improvement

Complaints, Warnings and Problems

I thought it would be nice to start a thread on anything you find unhappy about spread betting (and CFD) companies.

I hope this will become useful to anyone who intends to use these companies. After 10 years using them, I have encountered numerous problems but I will only discuss one which has partly contributed to my reason for unwinding my operation.

The trouble with Spreadco (Spread Co) arose in December and finally concluded at the end of March. The Financial Ombudsman has sided with Spreadco so I am unsatisfied with the outcome.

So in December, I traded with the DJIA (Wall Street 30, ws30). Their platform behaved in an illogical manner. This was not clear to me at first but as the number of trades reached about 8, I realised that the order of the trades were not in chronological order. This contributed to unintentional trades and I foolishly carried on trading with them thinking I could weather the storm. I have never come across a spread betting company that orders executed trades in a haphazard way. They have since corrected this illogical behaviour.

I first contacted them but they would not take my case seriously. So I complained to the CEO and he told me to contact Compliance. Compliance dismissed my claim that the irregularity in the platform partially contributed to my loss. If I had known of this irregularity, I would never have traded so much.

The Financial Ombudsman dismissed my claim as well. They do not have the capability to see from a day trader's perspective. They told me I could have gone to the Trade History tab and monitored the trades (very cumbersome) and noted down the Trade Reference numbers of all the trades ( a long string of letters and numbers) and if I wanted to close a certain trade, I could go back to the Positions tab, find the certain trade using the Trade Reference and close it. Who would do this? The fact that Spreadco fixed this problem later on surely means that they realised there was a problem. Not in the eyes of the Ombudsman.

After all these trouble, I think I will still keep some funds in the account to take advantage of the 2 percent interest on deposits. I won't trade large amounts with them any more. I do hope this thread becomes useful to all traders out there. I would feel happy that my loss was not all in vain. Good luck everyone.

Intermarket Analysis Strategy

Intermarket Analysis involves analysing multiple asset classes. The objective is to determine how one asset class impacts on another.

Asset classes have been driven by one another for many years but it is particularly more significant in the present global market.

As Forex traders we should never look at currencies in isolation. Instead we should look at equities, bonds and commodities to determine their impact on specific currencies.

I am keeping a close eye on the Aussie Dollar, lets look at some analysis of it.

The Aussie has taken a battering in recent trading mainly due to weakening global sentiment and a fall in the price China has to pay for its iron ore.

The dip in iron ore prices also impacted CAD the other high risk currency. With the price of oil making recent new lows can we see further weakening of the CAD?

The chart below shows the AUD and Iron Ore Futures contract overlaid. I believe both are at a key levels and have the potential to break lower

28th March 2017 - EURUSD became well-buoyed

• After Trump health care bill loss, it is hard to believe that there can be easy tax reforms in US, as these tax reforms can drive the US budget deficit higher with no compensating from eliminating Obamacare.
• The US Equities outlook is not bright as it has been before because of the lost reflation hopes.
• The industrial commodities such as the Iron ore and copper as well came under selling pressure, as the financial stimulus plans of Trump are in serious check right now.
• The greenback came under pressure as this lower US economic outlook drives the interest rate outlook down too and lowers the inflation pressure potential.
• The US treasuries yields came under pressure with this current dovish sentiment which pushed the investors' trust in buying these notes up.
• EURUSD could easily have a higher place with these growing worries about the economic outlook in US, While the cheeriness of watching higher growth rates and inflation rates in EU is still on.
• The data which came out from EU yesterday have shown that March Germane IFO business climate rose to 112.3 which is its highest level since July 2011.
• While the loans to the EU household sector rose yearly by 2.3% in last February to Eur5.75 trillion which is the highest since February 2011.
• We have seen also last week EU flash PMI of March rising to 56.2 which is the highest since April 2011, after 55.4 in February, while the market median consensus was referring to decreasing to 55.3.
• It's important to watch too by the end of the week the flash reading of EU CPI of March which is expected to show rising by 1.8% year on year, after increasing in February by 2% which has not been seen since December 2013.
• You need to focus too on the Core figure of it which is expected to highlight increasing by 0.9% yearly, as it has been in January and December.
• As meanwhile, The core figure became more important to the market participants, after Draghi had said several times recently before the EU parliament and after the recent ECB 2 meetings that the current rising of the inflation rate is mainly because of the oil prices yearly increasing.
• Politically, The Single currency could be boosted also from another side by the loss of the polarization in Netherland and the progress of Merkel's popularity in Germany especially, after her meeting with Trump and Ardogan's criticism to her policies which are looking very suitable in Germany for dealing with him.
• Merkel's CDU ruling party could accomplish unexpected success in the south west of Germany gaining 40.7% of Saarland votes, while its main competitor party SPD gained only 29.6% and the right wing party AFD which has nationalization and population tendencies gained only 6.2%.
• Technically, EURUSD could gain momentum, after surpassing last Feb. 2 high at 1.0828 and last Dec. 8 high at 1.0873
• After forming series of higher lows above 1.0340 which has been reached on the third day of this year to be the lowest level since December 2002.
• EURUSD could form a second bottom at 1.0493, before having higher lows at 1.0525, 1.06, 1.0719 and 1.0760 which drove this pair to reach 1.0906 yesterday.
• By reaching 1.0906, the pair could have a place above its daily SMA200 but it retreated to be traded near 1.0960 below this average in its 18th day of being above its daily Parabolic SAR (step 0.02, maximum 0.2) which is reading today 1.0754.
• EURUSD daily RSI-14 is referring now to existence inside the neutral region reading 66.336.

What is OPEC and how does it influence oil prices?

OPEC has an important influence on oil price. For a long period of time, its ability to move the price of oil is quite limited; this is because each country has different stimulus than OPEC itself. One of the examples is OPEC countries and OPEC is unhappy with the oil price, it’s in their best interest to trim the supply of oil so prices will rise.

This has made to new non-OPEC reserves that marked OPEC’s ability to influence oil price, which results a consequent crash with prices.

Ive been interested in learning market profile for a while. Ive looked on you tube etc and found FutexLive does a course. I enquired about the course etc via e mail. After an exchange of email they said they would send me paypal details to pay for course if I wanted. The other day I had an alert off Paypal saying there was unusual activity on my account "someone had tired to take money out". It turns out it was Futexlive setting up a 200 quid transfer. Are you 10% or 90%

Hi All

Being reading a lot on the forum for the last few weeks regarding strategy and markets etc. All with great interest and as the ratio of losers to winners is 90% losers to 10% winners according to most sources I am curious as to see if that is true.

So can we do a little survey to see if these figures are true. As its rude to ask how much someone has in total simply answer using a keyword from list based on the last 12 months.

Lost - Lost more than made
Little - Made £1000 or less
Savings - Made more £1000 but less than £10,000
Investment - Made more than £10,000 Less than £25,000
Wage - Made more than £25,000 Less Than £50,000
Salary - Made more than £50,000

maybe also add the platform and trading style to add meat to the bones ie Intertrader Forex

Initial Advice ...

Hi all,

Been a lurker here for a while so figured I would post!

Basically, I currently use a free app and do some practice FX trades profitable at the moment. However, we all know fake money isn't the same as real money in regards to risks taken etc.

So what I would like to do:

Get an app (typically I travel a lot), put a small amount of capital down e.g £100, and basically just started trading FX with real money. I mostly follow patterns so would also be ideal if I can tell said app to sell if it gets to X price, and potentially buy at X price. However, I don't want no random hidden costs if I put down £100 I only want to spend that, not close my account and end up having to pay an extra X.

I understand the risks, I don't expect to earn millions, mainly doing it as a hobby going forward, fully expect a learning curve, fully expect to top up the account!

What I need to know:

Does an app like this exist? (I assume so), if so what app is the best or would you recommend? ...... would also be ideal if it had shares/stocks on too.

Thanks!

Any other advice is welcome.

Question about forex promos with prizes

Hello everyone here

I see info on some promos with big prizes such as cars, gold etc. I wonder if they can be trusted? I have some thoughts, but I have some wishes too. If someone offered me to get a car, I would agree, of course, but not every company is trustworthy (the last info was about insta which I don't trust at all, thanks FPA for revealing the truth...) But my question is about another issue. I just want to hear people's thoughts and to make my decision about participating in such action more reasoned...

Would you trust such actions and register with that company ? What prizes would be the most seductive for you ?

I don't know why I am so overwhelmed about this, but I dream of my own luxury car for my whole life, and here is a hope to get one. maybe. Don't know. :D It may sound funny, but that's my thoughts. Sorry if you find them a bit stupid and suitable for a teenager :D

• While the higher interest rate outlook in US has become a clear threat to these financial stimulating plans,
• As the Fed's fund rate rising direction can erode their influences showing that it is not the best time to take such plans by this cost which can reach 1tr USD as Trump announced previously.

• GBPUSD could easily be underpinned by rising of the interest rate outlook in UK, after the inflation data over the consuming level in UK has shown rising of the CPI yearly by 2.3% last February which is the fastest pace of rising since September 2013, while the consensus was referring to increasing by only 2.1% after ascending by only 1.8% in January.

• After the Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo The General Secretary of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries has previously said the same in London oil Forum last month.

The US equities are facing acceleration of the downside pressure

What is the most common time zone for charts?

I used to trade on FXCM's platform, which was based on U.S. Eastern Time. Therefore the day closed at 1700 EST and the new day candle opened accordingly. Since FXCM clients were forced out, I have now transitioned to Gain Capital and I use their data in MT4. That data is based on GMT (London). The daily candles close/open at 0000 (Midnight GMT). Gain's in-house platform runs yet another time zone. I have looked at other brokerages and there seems to be a variety of time zones for plotting charts.

As you can imagine, this disparity across charts creates daily candles that look different. While one could be a bullish engulfing, another could be a hammer. This is also true of the 4 hour charts. However, 1 hour charts are identical across the spectrum (obviously).

So now I am wondering; what is the standard? What do the big institutions (banks) use?

Wild day DAX & FT100

Hi All

Well what a roller coaster today was, DAX started really well bouncing up and then like the FT100 wallop down it comes and keeps coming. All the indicators showed oversell but no turn, bugger:thumbsdow

Any idea why the markets dropped so much , could it be the article 50 news or is there something else a foot

Less is more strategy

I've decided to trade less often than I used to before, but to wait for bigger than average signals and then invest a relatively large amount in them.

I am trying this strategy out because I think it will reap more rewards in the long run than I have been getting till now.

I intend to keep this journal of how things go.

Honest forex signals

Anybody got any experience with this service please ?

177 USD a month which is quite high but they claim to bring in between 200 and 300 pips a week. For me a consistent 100 pips a week would be sufficient.

Tried checking them out on Forex Peace Army and whilst the majority of reviews are favourable there are a few on there which claim that the service is a scam. Unsurprisingly perhaps any negative reviews are normally called out by HFS as being posted by rival services but equally some of the negative reviewers claim that HFS are falsely submitting their own positive comments.

All of this has left me totally confused so it would be very helpful if anybody can share their experience of this service.

Thank you guys and girls.

Trading Platforms

Hi guys, I have been looking into day trading for a few weeks. I am already a professional gambler always looking into new avenues and ways to create wealth. I do already trade within my ISA allowance and try to fill it up each year.

However - I am also interested in looking at day trading. Its quite a wide field obviously. I was hoping to ask some experienced day traders on what sort of platform to begin with.

I have looked into SureTrader but I have no idea whats legitimate, theres Plus500 etc etc, there seems to be so many. All with varying reviews.

I just want to be able to get hooked into some live markets (hopefully with a demo account) so I can hit some buttons, attempt to spot patterns e.t.c. This should help as I am researching to understand and get to grips with what they are talking about.

I am interested in pattern and momentum trading but I have no idea if this is just a fallacy or it can genuinely be profitable.

If so, where can I start with a platform to try it out on?

Anyway, cheers in advance :).

The Jockorendum

Mr Brown has already pledged to join forces with Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale to campaign for a people's constitutional convention to look at how power is distributed across the nations and regions of the UK.
Ms Dugdale confirmed her party would vote against the SNP's demand for a fresh referendum when it is debated at the Scottish Parliament next week.
She said: "Our call for a reformed UK is about meeting the demand for change. One message from the independence and EU referendums was that people wanted more control over their lives.
"That's why Labour's plan for a people's constitutional convention and a federal UK will transform where political and economic power will lie in our country."

Choosing a system

Tim/counter_violent,
Basically this is a post my indicators, template and methodology.
The methodology is the 'type' of the trade and it is targeting REVERSALS as a low risk strategy.
Why? Because a correct reversal 'picks' the actual top or bottom of the chart within the timeframe chosen and offers the biggest profit. When it is wrong, the trade has an exact risk rather than a nominal risk.
Can it be used for other types of trading?
'Options' can benefit from this strategy - 'no touch' for example as illustrated on FTSE 5m chart.
The same illustration FTSE 5m shows a short trade based on a perceived short reversal.
The principle is simple - the Momentum Divergence Predictor (CCI-55) has auto drawn trendlines over/under it. The start of a 'new' trendline is the start of a new reversal opportunity which is waiting for the new trend to peak or trough. The end is detect through chart BB-Stop colours (like ma's), confirmer indicators MACD and Stochs (2 stochs superimposed to show when there is divergence on stochastics, this is in addition the divergence on the CCI as, between them, they get all divergences). The blue histos on the DP are divergence.
Use the template as anyone wishes as it will be good for trend trading as well as low risk scalping, which was my particular way of trading when I traded.
Recommend all users stick to one trading strategy to begin with so expertise and confidence is built up.

Easy to read broker

Hi

Am in UK, Need Data Provider for Dax Futures (Eurex)

Hi

Would be grateful for some advice. I need a data provider for Dax futures on Eurex. Am trading intraday for just 5-10 ticks so speed is No1. I don't need a futures broker as trade/execute through a UK spreadbetting broker. The tax free is great but you can't scalp off their prices.

I will use Ninjatrader for charting platform so just need the data and this is where my knowledge lets me down. Common sense tells me I should choose a data provider based in the UK/Europe rather than on the other side of the world, as every (milli)second counts (even though I be just be charting and not queuing contracts). However all I can find are data providers based in the US.

Can anyone help? I need tick data, thanks.

A Massive Thank You to Peter Richards

And of course all the other contributors posting their valuable advice in Peters thread ATS EOD.

After suffering and feeling quite sick from the loss of a chunk of money that ATS conned out to me, stumbling on this forum via google is without a doubt so far the best discovery I've made on the web since last year! So a massive thank you to Peter and of course all those that provided the correct advice and links regarding section 75, your all just absolute stars.

All the best

Is Molins a value play?

Maturing business Molins is struggling to grow.

Revenue is 33% smaller today, then 2004. Market valuation decline by 80% since 2003. Are Molins shares still value for money?

Molins management made a recent trading update suggesting the poor results is for last year. Because customers were delaying orders till 2017.

The second good news is their pension situation. With the UK Bond Rates (known as the 10-year Gilts) rising. Their assets pay more in cash flow to Molins retirees.

The downside to Molins is capital expenditure. Because they haven’t spent big for a long time. Molins asset age in 14 years (is a record), and 60% of their assets meet that age.
Their last big spend was in 2003 at £13.6m. Since 2009, Molins average £4m in CAPEX. Don’t be surprised if they spend £10m.

On share price, Molins could average 80 pence per share in 18 months. But, don’t be surprised if it falls back to 40 pence because of the markets at all-time highs.

Historical Prices

Hi
Specifically I'm looking for old pricing for HSBC going back to 1999.
I've googled and looked at http://ift.tt/2mSkKMQ and http://ift.tt/2nI7yaT
Perhaps I'm reading the charts wrongly, but (for example) 7/10/99 pricing is 6.24 on Yahoo and 7.11 on Google, yet my dividend at that time was 7.73.
What am I doing wrong?

Alarms, where

Hi
I'd like to have the following alarms:
A text/sms message/sound on the screen whenever a 10 minute chart touches Bollinger lines, for DJI/FTSE/DAX

Today I use Tradingview, but first they want money for having more than one alarm, fair enough, but there's the problem that there's no data during the night, so the first hours of the trading day the Bollinger lines are skewed. Tradingview then offers another even more expensive package to have 24 hour data. And I prefer text messages to emails, available but again more expensive. It adds up...

Is there an alternative, maybe free, where one can get free text alarms like I need?

Thanks

Finding the Gold Mine of Mining Stocks

3 TIPS FOR SELECTING MINING STOCKS IF COMMODITIES RISE AGAIN

1. Junior Mining Stocks – these are companies that are relatively smaller, but take on risky mining explorations, choosing to invest in a number of Junior Mining stocks will give an investor more chances of investing into a flourishing company.

2. Consider the Political Influences – steer clear from companies that are in insecure or unstable regions or countries, Mining can be naturally political because there are strict laws that affect the mining industry. An unstable region might only interfere with the business.

3. Look for well-financed mines – look for well-financed mining stocks that have no immediate need to sell shares at low prices, since this would divert the attention of existing investors’ interest. The Best Junior miners to invest in are those that have a major partner that finances the company’s exploration or drilling or helps with the development of the company.

Using Spreadbetting for potentially long term FX investment

Could someone point out any flaws in this plan, it occurred to me after I read in someones thread a while ago that if they had either very wide or no stop losses then every bet/trade they made last year would have been profitable.

Putting a long bet on GPB/USD (for example) with a stop loss at £1=$1, which I am taking to be so unlikely as to be nearly impossible. That's about 2000pips away at the moment. The aim would be to make only 10% in less than a year, bearing in mind 2 weeks ago this pair was 200pips higher, this could happen in a matter of days or weeks.

Having read about the interest charges for daily funded/rolling bets I would use the quarterly bets which I gather have a broader spread. I don't have an account at the moment (I never have) so I don't know how wide the spreads are on the quarterly bets but I am presuming they are not in the 100s of pips?

I would be considering this "an investment" rather than a "bet", with the thinking being that even if it took 2 years to make 10% that would be 5% per annum "interest" which is better than any bank account.

I haven't thought about what I would do if it made me 10% in a matter of weeks, i.e. would I let it go further up or bet the other way. I haven't decided.

Many thanks for any advice/input people wish to offer.

Why do I get phoned up by all these brokers in Cyprus?

CapitAlpha in Cyprus has just phoned me up wanting me to deposit some money and trade on their signals. I get phoned up by a company like theirs in Cyprus at least once a month. I'm in England and can choose lots of brokers here, regulated by English rather than Cyprus authorities. Why on earth do these companies think I would be interested?

Stop loss and averaging down

I would like to hear from members what they think of averaging down.
I know the perceived wisdom is NOT to touch Martingale systems with a barge pole but the hard facts of trading may make it necessary.
As it seems necessary then I am experimenting with averaging down by:-
1 times
2 times
3 times
4 times
And then setting a standard stop loss to cover in case it all goes down the drain.

What do you think ?

Smartest Move Billionaire Bill Ackman Made

http://ift.tt/2mnZL1H

"You win some and you lose some. For billionaire investor Bill Ackman of Pershing Square Capital Management, embattled drugmaker Valeant Pharmaceuticals (NYSE:VRX) may very well represent the worst investment of his lifetime after the billionaire announced yesterday that he'd sold out of Valeant.

However, selling Pershing Square's remaining 18.1 million shares now means walking away with about $221 million. That might seem like peanuts after losing nearly $4 billion, but Ackman deserves credit for realizing his mistake, checking his ego at the door, and walking away with $221 million rather than risk seeing his investment get further whittled down.

In the summer of 2015, shortly after Valeant hit an all-time high of $264 a share, the wheels fell off the bus, and Ackman would be taken for the ride of his life."

Ackman can move on now, he's shown what he can do with big winners and I look forward to seeing him brush the dust off from this loss and make some winning moves. Same principle applies to me and other day traders. You have some startling losses but you know your abilities, the obstacles facing you daily cannot be backtested properly, contrary to snake oil salesman suggestions.

Keep your head up and keep looking for the next opportunity.

If you want consistent income you have to switch to selling snake oil, so handle those losses and keep looking towards the next winner while knowing this is gambling, if day trading could be backtested and put into a conherent system it would have been programmed and reverse-engineered by your brokerage and the smartest minds on Wall St. long ago.

Dividend Stock UK

Hi everyone,
In my portfolio I try to keep stocks that pay constant dividends, defensive companies that maybe don't see huge improvements in stock price but enjoy a fairly stable and profitable business. I am looking at some opportunities in the UK, and I was wondering if any of you follow a similar strategy and if they can advise 2 or 3 companies to have a further research on.

Thanks a lot!

Jd sports given shareholders 1,500% gains

JD Sports is one of the most successful companies in the last decade with share price gains of 1,584%!

These factors contribute to the following gains:
1. RISING PROFITS AND INCREASING MARGINS; - Profits grew from £8m to £133m in 12 years, whereas margins rose from 1.5% to 7%.
2. Revenue growth grew at a compound rate of 12.2% per year.
3. The value placed on JD Sports is close to 40X earnings and EV/EBIT of 25X (a record).
4. For every BRITISH POUND spent, JD manages to produce an extra £2.45 in sales within one year of implementing capex.
5. JD Sports has a net cash position of over £112m.

The funny thing is the previous decade (1996 to 2006) saw shareholders lose 8% on the stock.

HELP! Why wont this work?

I am new to trading and have never traded on a real money account. I am currently testing a strategy on gold futures trading. I am using the ThinkorSwim trading platform with REAL time data and quotes(so they say).

In my strategy is scalping strategy I suppose. I look at the 1 minute gold chart and determine support and resistance levels, when the price hit one or the other I go short or long. I set my limit order 2 or three ticks above my enter price, which will give me a profit of $20 or $30 per trade. Commissions and exchange fees cost my $3.76 per contract, so $7.56 to enter and exit a trade. I set my stop loss order at 10 ticks. I 2 tick profit can give me $12.48 profit per trade per contract. And If I can make numerous trades per hour I can have a decent day.

I am looking for reasons as to why this wont work. One reason I can see is that the bids and asks are easy to get into on the live simulated trading whereas on a real account it may be a little tougher to get into a trade at the desired price.
I ask myself "If it's such a good idea, why isnt everyone doing it?"
I try to justify this by saying that not many people are going to settle for making $12.50 per trade but and most people don't care to sit and look at a chart all day.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Varying performance with different intraday datasets

Hi there,

A system I am working on developing is performing significantly better on one set of intraday data (standard MetaQuote server data provided by IG Markets) compared to another, more realistic dataset (Alpari).

Unfortunately for me, the lacklustre performance is on the more realistic dataset...

I have tried to analyse the datasets and looked at how each candle differs on average (average, max, min). My suspicion is that the unrealistic dataset is less volatile (lower max, higher min), particularly during announcements, however I have not been able to confirm this by looking at the data.

Would you have any idea what could be the difference? Or perhaps what I should look for when a trading system backtests significantly better on one dataset compared to another?

Looking forward to any help :) !

Security for your PC & costs

I would like to start a discussion on PC security.
In the past I have found to my cost that indeed some sort of security is needed to combat the nasty malware on the net.
I used to use Avast and was pleased with it until they started upping the costs considerably.
So I changed to AVG. This used to be a free programme but gradually fell behind in effectiveness and then recently they were taken over. They are behaving like typical capitalist companies now and offer new add-ons and upgrades. For instance they have recently improved ( by the look of it ) their for money programme. OK I say to myself they have something that I need but after only a few months I am invited to buy :-
AVG internet security for an extra £49.99
AVG Ultimate for an extra £69.99.

There are many out there that are more knowledgeable than I, so which security programme do you advise, keeping in mind costs and effectiveness.

Dialight valuation ahead of fundamentals?

Dialight (DIA) saw market valuation reached £350m or 440% higher in 15 years.
But, what about its fundamentals?

The business saw no growth in sales (+4%) with declining earnings of 78%. One positive spot is free cash flow increasing by 55%.

However, fundamentals have not catch-up market valuation. The only explanation is the stock market is overheating sending any shares to the moon.

P.S.: The dot-com bubble didn't end well for the shareholders back in 2000.

Can someone clarify basic things for me please?

Hey,

I've recently got few thousand pounds of disposable income from a lucky win in a scratch card and I really don't have any usage for that money since I'm just a maths student getting by, so I thought to allocate some of that to stock trading.

I'm currently just in my research stage and plan to begin actual trading in the summer when my exams are all over, so here are a few questions which are probably very simple if you're into the stock market, but I simply couldn't find any answers.

I'm based in the United Kingdom, and I believe there are several different stock exchange platforms, does this mean I should for example stick to London stock exchange? How do they differ? Any other UK based ones? Anything stopping me from trading in any other stock exchange say New York Stock Exchange? One better than the other?

How do I find out what and when companies pay dividends? I've downloaded an app on my phone called 'Trading 2012' where you can buy various shares and sell them as a practice account, just to get a feel, however, I cannot find anything regarding dividends what so ever.
I believe companies pay out dividends to their share holders every year, summing up the 4 quarters, does each company pay at a different date? How long do you need to own the share for to get the dividend? Can you only buy it for a few days prior to the dividend pay out and receive full dividends(clearly price of share would have to raise on these dates)? How do I find out how much dividends companies pay, can't seem to find that anywhere on my app?
How are they calculated? I believe it's called the dividend yield, however, That's something calculated after the company decides the amount they're paying not otherwise? Say Company X says for each share you'll receive £1 each quarter, and then we work out the yield? When do they establish how much dividends they're going to pay?

What do you use to trade? Preferably people from the UK or ones using some international platforms, any websites, apps, forums, blogs you'd recommend?

So many questions, I hope somebody takes their time to read and potentially give me a better insight into this, I've only contemplated this idea for a day so apologies in advance if some of my questions are too trivial :p
If you have any useful material that could benefit me that'd be great!
Thank you!!

CFD Trading - Help please

Hey,

I wanted to start with CFD Trading.
I know the risk is high to lose more than you originally put in, therefore i have a question.

I want to invest a little in CFD´s of DAX.
Assuming that I will close my position every day before the market closes (so i wont hold them over night) and i set up the Stop Loss, so that i will lose all my funds (at maximum) - I shouldnt be losing more than my funds, should I?

Or could there be like erratic changes, so the the trading course "jumps over" my Stop Loss course and I have to close my positions to a lower course than my Stop Loss was set to?

I hope you get what i mean and im looking forward to get help from you! :)

From FOREX to STOCKS upgrade

Hi,

Would anyone recommend or any advice to getting started with the STOCK market?

Advice/support needed

Hello. I'm new on this forum.

I'm not a rookie in trading, but I'm out of the bussines since 15.01.2015. I've got some heavy damages that day. I had to take multiple loans to pay brokers debts. Now I have to make monthly payments to 2023. I have no claims to none. It was my mistakes. Still, It was not the end of the world. I want to trade again someday.

From my recent perspective the worst thing was that I can't aford to paying for a health insurance.
I'm suffering from advanced in-born astigmatism. I was prepearing for laser surgery then, but in my case it requires an eye defect to stabilise and a multiple visits in clinics.
Now, 2 years later, as you can guess it's much worse. I can't recognize people faces from more than 3-4 meters, I'm almost blind in the dark. I have to zoom in my browser by 250% to use the internet. Frequent headaches and chronical stress are the least concearns. Still, it's not the end of the world.

But since December I've got serious abdominal pain. I've lost almost 15 kg (33 pounds) in two months, and it appears more and more often. I'm scared that if I don't do something now, it will end with some much worse. And the sweetest news is that I will lose my job in April. That could be the end of the world.

I need a medical treatment, so I need money. I was consider do find some crowdfunding website to beg for money to re-buy the overdue insurance, buy the glasses with correct lenses and imediately go to the first contact doctor - about 8'700$.

I don't have many friends, I was never present in social media. I used to be a trader in the past, so I'm looking for help/advive in traders communities. I've got two questions:
1. Is there a chance that I'm gonna raise money that way?
2. Would You consider to support me?

I'm asking admins for understanding and I hope that I don't violate Your rules.
Best Regards,
T.

Ps.
As my contribution I can confirm that some well known cliche is priceless:

Health is not valued till sickness comes.

Made a living

Hi All

In my day job I come across lots of bedroom sellers claiming to be Richard Branson because they have a eBay account , yet drive a clapped out Fiesta. So I wonder how many on here really have made a living from trading as I am sure when you watch the YouTube videos the guys selling the courses make their living from the courses and not the trade as I have yet to meet a rich business owner who would tell you the secret to their success let alone set up a training school, the old saying comes to mind "Those who can , do , Those who can't Teach"

So for me I am looking at a 3 to 5% return and build slowly to have a nest egg and enjoy the journey on the way. What are your game plans

Will an overnight order get fulfilled?

I am wondering the likelihood of an order being fulfilled outside of market opening times.
For example, a FTSE company closes a day at a price of 10.00. The next morning they announce good news at 7am. When the market opens at 8.am, the price is already up to 11.00
If I were to put a buy order at 7.30am to buy if the price gets to 10.10, what is the likelihood that this will get fulfilled as the price has jumped up so quickly 'over night'?
Is it a case of crazy volatility at 8am and if you get it you get it, if you miss it you miss it? Or are all the orders queued? Or does it depend on the size of your order?

Would the likelihood differ between share trading and spread betting?

Could anyone explain this in more deatail for me?
Thanks

Carpetright PLC to target £4/share soon

Management attitude of conserving cash and refreshing stores’ format is the right strategy for the turnaround of its business. Also, I get the sense Carpetright wants to emulate WH Smith by focusing on margins improvement while stemming the decline in sales.

However, the share price of Carpetright PLC seemed less enthusiastic, despite the return to profits (making £14m per annum) and reduction of debt (£7m in borrowings from £105m, six years ago).

The interesting thing is the current market valuation of £140m is 85% below peak valuation of £1bn. And, profits are growing from the refreshing their stores' format.

Recently, Carpetright plc shares gone up by 25% in two weeks with the monthly chart telling me a £4/target is next. http://bit.ly/2mFdRyQ

P.S. I researched this a few weeks ago and written an article on my blog.

Full time trading a success?

Hi, everyone!

I am not sure if there's already a thread regarding the same question as mine, but I am very interested as I am about to lose my job. I know trading is hard with the kind of market that is not consistent and very challenging but what if making it Full-time? Is there any chance? or is there anyone here that have been working with it full time and succeed?

I always wanted to start but maybe I lack confidence and inspiration. I need some words from you guys!

Thanks in advance.

Have I missed something

Hi All

Forgive me for being a bit thick , I always thought the FT100 closes at 4.30pm and if this is so how does the IG Platform trade the FT100 24 hours a day?

If it is the broker making the moves is it fair to assume that the broker can ensure that you never really win or have I missed something.

American women traders meet up here!

How many women are around here who trade commodities? I got my start last year, and continue to trade with a guy I met while RVing. He's a great coach, and we discuss the markets a lot. But I was wondering if there are any ladies I could market chat with. I trade mostly soybeans, soymeal, corn, and wheat so far.

Let me know you're out there trading, ladies!

Dynamite Indicators aka the indicator guys

Hi guys

I just thought I would warn everyone that this is just the indicator guys re-branded with Chris Leonard still running it. I got an email yesterday saying that he was relaunching it and has been overwhelmed with all the interest shown.

Knowing Chris it is a complete lie but if there is anyone considering them please stay well away. He takes your money doesnt give you what you pay for then makes excuses and gets abusive when you dare ask for what you paid for.

Anyone considering dynamite indicators please look at these reviews on the indicator guys. The fact that this is the third time the company has changed its name should tell you everything. Chris keeps conning customers then runs away and changes the name when he runs out of excuses. I am in the process of taking him to court. Please everyone else stay away

Real time Broker

Hi All

I know this might sound daft as still learning the ropes (probably still will be in 5 years)

I currently use IG for spread betting however feel a little uneasy as the prices are not from the real market as the FT shuts at 4.30pm yet you can trade through the night, something to with futures as a kind chap explained the system for me.

So my question is there a broker that is as good as IG but uses realtime prices of say the SP500 and FT100

It chronicles her personal journey in the world of Spread Betting.

The book seems to finish before it should.

From losing bet to losing bet.

From mentor to mentor.

But alas, no end to the story.

Did she make a million or keep losing?

What if?

So, only 1 in five people consistently make money at financial spread betting. How terrible. How very terrible, and you think about that, and you think some more, and then it suddenly...

It suddenly strikes you - as only an epiphany can:

What other form of gambling, of all the forms of gambling you could possibly think of, comes even remotely close to a ratio of "one in five people" walking away, year in year out, as a consistent winner?

Poker? Blackjack? Football betting? Baccarat?

Really? Are you sure about that!? Are you?

Look to the facts please.

Because if you look long enough into the facts -

You might just find, for example, that your chances of being a consistent winner at financial spread betting are about twice your chances of being a consistent winner at the very next best form of gambling (ratio of winners - approx 1:10) - and that's also, once you become skilled at that, which also takes many, many, many years of learning all the nuances of the game.

In other words, you tell us which form of gambling, gives any one of us a greater than 1 in 5 chance of being a consistent winner and I won't be the only one who would start to lose interest in financial spread betting.

So... now, the 'what if' question:

What if, pressure is being put on a certain regulatory body, to try and bring the numbers of consistent winners ...'more into line', with all other forms of gambling (and for obvious reasons)?

A starter strategy with rules to follow

Hi Guys

I need some advice, if any are willing.

I've traded two accounts previously, one forex, a few years ago after taking a day trading week long course (price action), eventually blew the account, mainly because i didn't know what i was doing.

Then was paper trading for a year or so due to work restrictions and lack of confidence etc, then started a binary options account after one of my friends reeled me into the hype, was actually doing ok for a couple of months before i blew that account, reasons were not sticking to the rules and poor risk management.

So i learnt a few hard lessons and came back after a long break, after the best part of a year reading up on almost everything i can find, now with a new and more flexible hours job and a passion, I feel I'm ready to get back into it.

Basicly I'm looking for a forex day trading strategy using small time frames, Using FIB/RSI/BB/Price action. (or any of the indicators really)

But the main point is I need some rules/strict guidelines to go by which i can back test and trade on a demo to then progress and adapt to suit my style, if such a thing exists!

At the moment I just feel in no mans land with nowhere to start!

Ive been through loads on the trading methods but there are threads literally 300 pages long with the info all spread out.

Any videos explaining a strategy would be even better.

Does anyone know of any links to these? or have any advice to help start me out.

Just too note: im not asking to buy any products/signals/platform or any paid membership or to shortcut anything. I want to learn myself i just need some guidance on where to start.

Index CFD & Renko/D1 trading

Index CFDs frequently range and give repeat chances to trade swings over a day or two. I focus on the D1 chart to sell toward the upper side of the range and buy at the lower side of the range using Renko charts for the trigger.
.
The Renko charts are online indicators and not the product of converters from online to offline. They can also be combined with a UniversalEA from the same developer to autotrade an online Renko chart.
.
But I find manual trading to be more consistently profitable and prefer the USDollar and SPX500 CFDs.
.
I am interested in hearing from other active traders about their strategies and results and glad to chat and respond to questions.

Helping me decide

Hi guys,

Introduced myself over in the respective thread 'Introduce Yourself'.

I'm Ant from the Midlands. I currently run a side business from my 9-5 job to try and make a little side money. It's an eBay based business but due to the nature of products sold, very little profit, you're looking £1 per item. So of course, to sell enough to make a decent living, I need to be selling a fair few hundred a week.

It's in between being too busy to cope after work some nights. But then not busy enough to go all in and leave work.

So i'm looking at trading. I have the drive, I am great at money management and when gambled in the past for nights (such as a boxing night) I know when it's time to call it a day. Blow my own trumpet I guess with money management but I guess what I mean is I know my risk factor, understand what I can and can't do and many times have been called a tight-****!

I'll be reading, reading and reading some more and of course going through many demo accounts before trading my real hard earned cash.

I have read this thread: http://ift.tt/2mcaCg1.

And would like to get from you guy & gals, what do you trade and why did you decide to trade that?

I have been reading up on Forex and something I would like to get into. Especially as it goes hand in hand with what I do (import).

However, the end of last year I dipped into a demo Stock account and logging back into that this evening, I would have made a few hundred quid over the last couple of months had it been real money. The only thing that puts me off there, is they were given to me (someone at work said X Y Z will go up so I set it up on a demo). I don't actually know why they would have, so even with that, I'd been starting from scratch and learning what influences the market.

So yeah, help appreciated. I know you can't tell me what I should trade, but listening to a few that trade, have traded a while and why they picked that market would be great.

Thanks, Ant

Hot Air

Hi all

I am new here so have taken a lot of time to read the posts as looking to soak up information and for the most part I see a lot of new people like myself asking simple questions of help and being spoken down to by quite a few that never really answer the questions that is being asked so my belief is that these people talking down to the newbies are just wannabes who talk a load of hot air and cannot back up their arrogance or is it just me.

I would like to see some real chat on brokers and trading in general without the bull, just the facts ie easy to use , good customer service and which area they work best in ie stocks or Forex or how the interest of trading has made their bank balance f\nd life for the better.

Not a rant just an observation of the posts :whistling

Minefield choosing a broker

Hi All

as a beginner in stocks I feel like I am walking a mine field when looking for a broker when reading the reviews. I know that only the negative shout loudest , however when you hear that firms are only there to rip you off by pulling trades etc you do get a little concerned.

Reading the threads no one has really given a honest review of a broker. They all seem to have a love / hate opinion of IG and Plus500. So to spreadbet or CFD stocks (not forex) who has an easy to read platform and are fair to trade with, I know this is asked a lot but would be great if the answers could be clear.

Overseas resident share dealing account.

Which stockbroker based in the UK offer a trading account for non residents, ( overseas residents share dealing account) has extended settlement, trailing stop orders, online application, online trading, flat fee commission, has cash management account and do not require a UK Bank account?

I understand TD direct investing and Barclays are no longer opening new accounts for non residents. I would like to invest in stocks quoted on London Stock Exchange.

Selling covered calls and puts against long and short stock positions

Hi all,

I have been trading forex for a while but have just started looking at US stock/index/EFT options (I know there is an options forum, but I think this is more of a stocks question!).

I am interested in the concept of writing covered calls, which of course would involve owning the stock. Now, when I think about this, the call seller would collect a guaranteed income from the option premium. However, this is not fool-proof as the stock could depreciate. If one owned the stock for the long haul then, so long as they ensured that they were never assigned (e.g. by closing the position early), then this would not be an issue because they would just hold the stock indefinitely.

However, If someone didn't want to commit to owning the stock indefinitely, then what about this idea???........if one was also short on the same stock at the same price then you would always be approximately neutral and protected against the movement of the stock; in theory, you could then write both covered calls AND covered puts against these and make the guaranteed income.

What I am wondering is whether this is a viable strategy? I know short selling is risky, but if one could cover any difference with what you made on the other side, then surely the risk is mitigated???? As far as I can think, the only " cost of business" other than the commissions would be the interest needed to pay the broker for the short.......is this correct? Also, I imagine that I would need to do this in 2 separate accounts???

I am trying to think of all the pitfalls before I start paper trading this concept.......surely I have missed something?! Any problems stick out to anyone?

Appreciate the help!
AC

Binary dot com (Bet on Markets) UP-DOWN Bets

Binary dot com offers trial accounts to test your system first, which is more than most spread betting companies do. I'm still investigating binary, or fixed-odds bets, but betting the market to be UP or DOWN at the end of a specified period strikes me as the simplest and most-lucrative, in that returns are typically 75% - 95% ... in fact one can avoid placing bets offering poor odds as returns are known in advance. Seems easier than guessing whether the market will be at any given level at a certain fixed time in the future.

Forex offers 25 or more crosses to search for prospective winning chart patterns. For instance, one might bet, via the 1-hour chart, to rise or fall after 3 hours, based on momentum and indicators like the stochastic momentum index and ADX. The more impatient might bet on the 15-minute chart over 45-minutes. A time-multiplier of 3 or 4 seems optimal ... too short and one gets caught by choppiness ... too long and one is deep into the unknown.

About 10 years ago Binary dot com -- then known as Bet on Markets -- actually used to publish the partial names of the past week's biggest winners (not necessarily up/down bets). Some won as much as £28,000! That only lasted about a year before being pulled. Or perhaps it was baloney. Anyone have experience on whether Binary dot com are good payers, or limit bets like sports bookmakers dealing with winning clients? At least Binary.com has a chance to lay winning bets on the huge stock/forex markets to some extent.

Comments? Success? Tips?

MT4 demo - inverse FX pairs

Hello,

Does anyone know if there is any MT4 broker which offers the inverse of popular pairs on its demo platform?

e.g. USDGBP, GBPEUR, CHFEUR

I appreciate conventional logic says just look at the way it's popularly quoted e.g. GBPUSD and flip your assumptions around. It would just be easier for my analysis if I could access pairs as the inverse to how they're usually quoted.

Alternatively, is there a setting in MT4 which will flip the pair around?

Confused about Initial & Maintenance margins

Hello. I'm a Newby. I'm trying to get my head around a few 'techie' margin terms. So sorry if I sound pretty uninformed!

Initial margin - I think that's like saying for every £1 I borrow via the broker, I put up 50p. Is that right?

Also maintenance margin. Is that like a deposit for renting a property? So if I leave the property in a bad way, the broker still has the deposit i.e. if there's a serious drop in the value of my margin account, they've still got protection?

Sorry if these questions sound EXTREMELY basic.! Just starting out.

Thanks

John N, London
