Optimus Futures- Be aware

I have been looking for a new broker and I read many great reviews about this company, I looked at their site and found the commissions really good and the fact that they offered X Trader Pro for free, well I assume it is the pro version as the standard doesn't have autospreader. I opened an account with AMP who is their clearing house for use with TT and I was then told that the X_Trader standard has a monthly fee of $600 and the pro version has a cost of $1,500 per month.

Below is exactly what is on their website and when I spoke to the very short customer service person I was again promised of the below prices prior to opening an account.

Pricing
X_Trader®
Option 1: Per Transaction

$0.50 Routing Fee per side - No Monthly Platform Fee

This option is only available to clients with AMP Clearing

Includes all the features of X_TRADER® Pro at no additional cost, including:

MD Trader®
Autospreader®
Autotrader™
X_STUDY®
ADL®
TT API | FIX Adapter
Algo Strategy Engine (Algo SE)
Autospreader Strategy Engine (Autospreader SE)
Synthetic Strategy Engine (Synthetic SE).

Please be very careful of this company, I have gone back to them about this and I am still waiting for their response

Beginner: PC setup

Hi All,

I'm a newbie - first post. Currently in a high powered job but craving escape into a world of autonomous day trading. Have set myself a 3 year plan to learn, learn, learn and learn some more. I'm reading the books...but realising that they lack context without being able to track the market, watch the charts etc. So, I'm looking to buy a trading PC setup. Then, a dummy account.

Question: I'm an Apple Mac user but I assume PC windows is the way to go. Any tips on the gear I'll need and easy route into it?

Cheers!!

Paul

Fastest place to check Earnings News ?

Are there any good sites to check in real time and place orders?
Or this is inherently impossible ? as the market would have already reacted to it ?

Does this mean we, the humans, need to make a guess before the earnings?

Even if it is this, I'd like to find out good sites still ?
I tried to use estimizer, marketwatch earning report, but still not sure if there would be better ones.

Thanks

FXTM, Intertrader and Xtrade

Hi Guys,
I am just about to start trading FX for real after having learnt how to program MT4 to do what I want it to do, i.e my own Indicator and EA.

I have been using an MT4 demo account provided by FXCM but I have noticed that they are now charging demo commissions on my demo account.

Obviously as I am hoping to now start making some small investments and profits I am looking for a broker that offers spread bets on FX at smaller sizes i.e. down to mini and micro lots.

While looking around at various brokers I have come across :
Intertrader.com offer MT4
Xtrade - not really my kind of platform
FXCM - who appear to offer the lowest spreads and MT4

Given that my trading fund is quite small at present, I need to go through spread betting companies (I think) that don't charge a commission per trade (as my trades will be smaller, so commission overheads large in comparison), can anyone offer an opinion on the above three companies please?

Need Help with DEGIRO

HI Guys,

I have recently opened an account with Degiro and all seems good apart from 1 thing.

Apparently you cant place a stop loss on a trade until the trade has been executed, meaning that from the time the trade is executed to the time you get to a computer you are at risk with no SL.

I have tried entering opposite orders against the trade but the system doesn't allow this.

Does anyone use them / know a way to place a stop loss at the same time as your limit order?

They do offer CFDs etc so not sure if i have to come up with some complex way of working out a stop loss.

But any help would be appreciated,

Many thanks,

Wheeler

Pat494 - T2W clickbait bot?

I always read with interest the topical/controversial/interesting topics put up by Pat - just can't resist them! So much so that I began to think that he's (might not be a bloke though?) possibly a T2W human bot put on here to stoke interest and provide quality comment and entertainment - a sort of Timsk from the dark side?

What do you think? I see from his profile that he spreadbets and uses Metastock, so he must be a pretty normal & sensible sort of guy (the logic is that I do the same ). On the other hand, if he is a bot - and especially if non-human, T2W has either got its hands on some pretty clever software or journalistic contributor.

Note: these are the sort of ramblings that go through my mind before the USA open and when all my trading prep's been done. Probably getting worse as I get older.

Education around the globe

As expected the UK is well down the rankings world wide for useful subjects like maths and science. Back in my day the cleverest students were encouraged to study useless subjects like Latin and ancient Greek. About time the educational establishment and politicians woke up a bit for the kids of the 21st century.

Trading Courses

Hi Guys and Gals, first post so go easy.
Despite all the wealth of information available on the net i've been studying lots of sites and tutorials over the last 3-4 weeks and still feel no further down the line towards trading with "real" money.
I've seen a few courses advertised online and in particular have attended the Learn To Trade seminar where I was systematically subjected to 2 hours of being sold to and the possibility i could soon be on 35k a month if i handed over my 2.5k registration fee!
I am a realist so don't think that a two day course will generate those sorts of results so I would like to hear from peoples own experiences and how they put together the knowledge to get started and in particular if they attended any courses to get the necessary skillset.
I have also seen another company advertising their services for a modest 3k per month called the London Academy of Trading, has anyone had any experience with these guys or could recommend courses or alternative solutions in the south east of England.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Good day, dear traders! I'll show you how to trade AUD / USD, NZD / USD, USD/CAD. "Commodity" currencies are easier to forecast than other currencies. Commission small it is also an advantage. I buy the AUD, NZD, CAD simultaneously or sell the currency pairs simultaneously. What is my method of trading? - This is a neural network. Now begin the question: how the neural network works, what its components? neural network device is very complicated. This question is difficult to give a simple answer. Let's not go into the details. Let's just watch my forecasts, and then make conclusions. I think that my topic will be of interest and help you in trading. Forecasts come at different times. The buy to let ticking time bomb

Came across an article tonight that made me wonder about the exposure faced with by buy to let landlords. The UK housing market has been marching on for years with little break. It has become popular to invest in this market as a pension egg or a business. I know dozens of people that have several properties with one having 15.

The Office for national statistics shows that about 6 percent of households earn an income from rentals. 6 percent of 26.7 million households is 1.6 million. I haven't read the new data although it's not needed to grasp the scale of it. last December the sector was sitting at 27 billion in risk. Not surprisingly the Bank of England thought it was necessary to curb. It was recently granted new powers to regulate the buy to let market. The more I think about it the more I wonder if the BOE had a hand in the ex Chancellor's buy to let shake-up.

So what is the risk essentially? Let's say you held a standard mortgage on your house. You might even have released some equity to fund your buy to let empire. Along with savings you have accumulated 2 additional buy to let properties. All the mortgages on these last 10 years have been so cheap that you decide to buy a 3rd. With interest rates going to rise, all we need are the right conditions to set off a debt servicing problem.

The BOE are going to be limited in scope to shelter shocks to the economy. Can you imagine a scenario where the BOE needs to pump billions to ensure stability. Exactly where is the pressure point in the amount of debt we carry and our credit worthiness of repayments (debt is currently about 90% of gdp). If we were downgraded then there will be a ripple affect to lending criteria, availability and scope of mortgage products, and increase costs. What happens if we see a lot of people leaving the UK as a result of brexit and suddenly there is less rental demand. Depending on the portfolio you have, you could be be safe or more exposed. Let's say your flats were at the lower end of the market. Are your tenants able to make payments if the cost of living goes up.

I see problems on the horizon for sure.

Stopped out by widened spread

Hi guys
It's the first time I really noticed this happen... I had an open position on CADCHF yesterday (Friday). Regardless of the merits or otherwise of the trade, price had not really gained any momentum in my favour but for that matter it had not really moved against me either.

http://ift.tt/2gxjSbS

However this morning I noticed I had been stopped out before market close although price hadn't really moved and certainly did not reach my stop loss, and when i looked into what had happened it was my broker changed the spread from 8 pips to 24 pips.

It says the spread on this pair is 8 pips during 'normal market conditions'. There were no big moves in price and the markets closes every weekend (a totally predictable and normal event) so why would the broker widen the spread just enough to take me out?

It all seems a little shady for a reputable broker. :frown:

Another UK tax question

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum, although not new to forex; I am just coming to the end of my third profitable month and so am now thinking that it's time to consider the tax implications of forex trading!!!

I know there are a lot of previously asked questions on T2W relating to forex trading and the UK tax laws, however, either I am not typing in the right search question, or this specific issue hasn't been dealt with yet!

Basically, my focus at the moment is on account growth, so am not planning on withdrawing any funds from my broker until such a time as I have a large enough account to enable me to do so and live off the money (luckily my wife is covering the household bills with her salary to enable me to go on this venture!). So, my question is, if I am not withdrawing any money from my broker, do I have to declare this as income, or is it only taxable once the funds are realised into a bank account?

Thanks all
AC

Market Psychology and Targets

Can anyone help set me on the road to understanding the bigger movements within markets over several days to weeks? i.e. what to read, what to think about, how to approach the subject.

To be specific, I am not asking for systems, or entries or money management or discussion of fundamentals or TA. Not to say these aren't all vital ingredients, but I want to understand where in general the market is likely headed based on human nature and why. And then within that framework, apply TA or whatever else to fine tune entry in that larger move that I can understand.

I am interested in Futures (Main indices like Dow S&P, Gold, Oil) and Forex (the majors). I have read Livermore and Wyckoff (including the excellent articles by DBPhoenix here), but I am struggling to see beyond the charts and into a different mindset, of how big players see this.

For example, an answer might be: Crude Oil may retrace 50c-$1 up, but ultimately it is headed to $40-41 in the coming days weeks because XYZ (reason). So I am interested in the next target, where is it going and why?

Hope it's clear what I'm looking for. All help appreciated.

Best way to trade a wedge down breakout

Hi all,

I would like to get into trading wedge down breakouts, at the moment I trade channel break out retests.

However, if I find a very clean a good setup for a wedge down break out, not trading the retest, I am getting frustrated of getting stopped out only to find that the stock goes in the correct direction.

I trade a daily time frame, but I guess applicable to other TF.

Either a wider stop? Or just pile in again if the stock break the trend line again.

I am also thinking options, maybe a ratio back spread.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks

CFD Broker with low or no commission

Hi,

I'm just starting with trading and I would like to start with trading stocks CFD's (mostly NASDAQ or NYSE).

I see that most (all?) brokers have a commision.
The problem is the minimum commision is too high when trading (very) low volumes.

If I buy 10 shares (CFD's) for 10$ each (Bid 10,00 - Ask 10,05), then I'm immediate $0,50 in loss (10 x spread). No problem with that.
But if the commision is minimum $10, I'm losing als 2x $10 (first at open order, later when closing order). Way too high for me.

Which (good) brokers have no (minimum) commission?

Thanks!

Doing well in paper trading. Bad in actual trading...

In paper trading, generally, I'm pretty satisfied
-> Last night, I put a buy order when stock spikes for today's DE stock (up 10%).

In the actual trading, although I saw the Earning number before stock spiked, for some reason, I was hesitant to make an order fast enough...

Don't know what I should do to improve....
anyone has similar experiences ?

I think one of my problems is not willing to lose money, and not risking enough if things look good.

Bonus

Hello everybody, my question is about bonus. As I was searching for different brokers, I found out that some of them offers bonus and some of them not. The percentage of this bonus was different in each brokerage. For example IG or Fibo brokers don’t offer bonus while some other such as ava trade offers 30% or fxglory.com offers 50%. How they calculate this bonus and is it withdrawable or not?

Market View

In the pre-opening, the European Indexes were traded with contained variations. European markets continue to reflect the optimism that the US election results have generated. However, this positive sentiment is not transversal to all indices and sectors. The more cyclical sectors continue to be the main beneficiaries (with their export component benefiting further from the weakness of the Euro), while the sectors most sensitive to interest rates continue to be penalized. Central European markets have been the main performers, while South European stock markets have been underperforming, explained by the higher yields of these economies, the exposure of several companies and banks to emerging markets and the approaching of the Italian referendum. Despite all these movements, the European indices continue to be traded in a wide range, which has lasted since June. In addition to the economic indicators, investors will monitor the publication of the minutes of the last meeting of the Fed (7:00 pm). The publication of this document may be less important than usual as investors expect, almost consensually, that the Fed raise interest rates at the December meeting. In fact, money markets put that probability at 100%. Tomorrow is celebrated Thanksgiving, and the market is closed. On Friday, the session will be shorter, ending at 18:00 GMT. Thus, it is expected that in the final phase of today’s session there will be a decrease in volume as several fund managers prematurely leave the trading rooms. The English Treasury Minister will hold the quarterly presentation on the economic situation today at 12:30 p.m. Investor sentiment will fall on the hypothetical measures that Theresa May’s executive has to curb the negative effects of Brexit.

Tips on my trading strategy

I am looking to open a trading account soon, and start paper trading using the strategy I intend to use to practice, and would just like some feedback/tips if it's feasible or not to achieve my goals.

I plan to day trade using a momentum scalping strategy, taking small positions and getting out very fast, capturing small profits of .10-15 cents. I do not plan to make trading my full time job, but is it reasonable to expect to be able to make at least $30-50 a day using this kind of strategy if I start trading with $10,000 and margin?

Hi all I am new to trading and this Forum

I recently joined an online trading company called invest.com who are based in Cyprus. I knew there would be some risks but I thought give it a go.

After a month or so I noticed a pattern on the Nintendo shares. To cut a long story short during the early hours of Friday morning between 00:00. - 05:30 I turned £200 into £42k.

I then got a call the following day after confirmation from the acc manager, monies will be in my acc in 5 days.

I recieved another call being accused of rogue trading and using software to manipulate their server. A few hours later I was told it was a glitch and they have to cancel the trades.

My question is, do I have any legal rights to the money?
Is it my problem they had a glitch?
What options do I have to fight this?

Hi every one My name is 1664 and I am very pleased to be here, I do not want to waste any ones time or dig up old threads, I would like to say thank before we start

Ok I have been trading with Plus 500 since April all by my self

I have had doubts but do they or does this happen, open a position Short with only a small amount in your account that day, some how it just goes above the preset limit shuts your position due to low equity and then it shorts for three days, did the stock really rise may be its happened three may be four times now

Also Friday just gone I made some money so I decided to invest it £400
in to NG short it went long oh well i was left with £29 I thought oh well short again,
this time one contract, yep, up she went oh well never mind its gone now.

woke up today to find that the tooth fairy had put in £100 OMG and the position was still going long all though I had shorted very odd normally this would be closed due low equity now its saying I have to fund my account.

NO sorry no more are they bad!!

thank you for reading my post

TWS hotkey to sell half or quarter of shares?

I know TWS has a hotkey for close position which is instant transmission but closing 50% and 25% of a position is not instant. Is there any way to make an actual sell order with the size defined as a percentage and not absolute/available/default?

Sometimes I like to place an order to sell at the ask too. If the above is possible then this will also become possible.

Bonus question: What is the quickest way to add a stop at a specified price? I just have a hotkey for a stop sell order for -6% from the bid then manually adjust it up to the price I want. Is that the quickest way?

Cheers in advance.

Evaluating strategies

Hi all,

I am opening this thread because I want to build up a constructive discussion of how people evaluate their trading strategies, wether they are manual or automated strategies.

The reason I bring this up, is that I recently started toying with some automated strategies and want to figure out how I can analyze the results coming out of a backtest better. I am building a spreadsheet for this purpose and I'm looking for improvements. Just curious how you guys tackle this problem.

I've attached snaps of the spreadsheet. It's WIP, since I need to add a whole list of things (including changing winners to green and losers to red in the chart hehe).

Heiken Ashi Chart Confusion

Hi all,
I have a small doubt.
Whenever we change Chart type to Heiken Ashi, the values of all Indicators changes completely. For instance the value of a particularity day in daily chart on any indicator will be different for candlestick chart than Heiken Ashi chart.
The Doubt is
The Indicators like MACD or SuperTrend ,etc, during their calculation using OHLC, Do they use Heiken Ashi's OHLC if on Heiken Ashi or does they take normal OHLC?

I was writing SuperTrend and Heiken Ashi Combination in python using Pandas.
Should I use Heiken Ashi's OHLC to write SuperTrend Strategy or with normal?

The Dollar index has been rallying lately and breaks above its historical high at the 100.80 level. The bullish trend may continue, but the index is over-extended to the upside. Therefore, it is possible to see a bearish correction, which may take the index back to the 100 or 99 levels.

Review: Volume levels for EUR/USD, GBP/USD, CAD/USD, AUD/USD

Hi guys
I want to show how you can trade volumetric analysis for currencies pairs. It's sound some strange, but spot market of currencies is not regulated. So we can exactly know about volumes and trades. But there are CME group (Chicago Mercantile Exchange) where are trading futures on currencies. And because CME reports to regulators we can exactly know about volumes and price behavior. Despite that global spot market is much bigger, price of futures have big influence on spot market. Trading Economics

There is far too little about this topic on this forum. Come to think of it i have never seen anyone on this forum dive into trading using a pure fundamental strategy.

Thread rule:
1) Those of you who's veins are made from trend lines. If say something that challenges your thinking, your world, your anger (not this mug again); then come and chat - do keep it on the friendly side.

Quick note about me:
10 years using pure technical analysis followed by 4 years of adding fundamental analysis and the last 2 years focusing entirely on the fundamentals. Trading technically for me became frustrating working on tuning risk and filtering junk trades. I started adding fundamentals as an experiment to filter the junk. After a few years of getting a handle on it i started reducing my losers and discovering i could trade without technical analysis altogether. I took the plunge and have never looked back. These days i probably spend no more than a minute on charts to set an order or enter at market. I trade medium to long term catching shifting economies. I also trade intraday but only on specific events.

I am not sure what the general perception is of a fundamental trader. I used to think it was a ton of research and watching news all day and i was largely wrong. News does affect fx although it doesn't do so on a regular basis. I am not going to discuss news trading to keep the process clear for anyone wishing to give it a go.

I need to start with trades that are planned to last for months. The knowledge you need to know for trading this way gives strong foundation to trading intraday economic releases (covered later).

Economies have cycles and some cycles take longer through stress. The thing is there are only 4 phases ( trough, recovery, peak, recession) that rinse and repeat over and over but do take time to transition. There are lots of economic indicators for every country. You don't need to know them all just the ones that indicate how an economy is doing. This list is the grouping of importance (top is highest rank)

inflation
Interest rates, GDP
imports exports, labor, manufacturing, services, (oil, commodities)
debt, accounts

I wont go into individual indicators because i want to focus on the general approach. I use a site called tradingeconomics to study each area of the economy and note down a simple paragraph explaining whats going on and write a new one every month. Each paragraph is followed by a bullet list of the main measurements (GDP, interest rates, inflation, labour) because these are key areas i need to know offhand. These paragraphs i read at least once because it does instil an ability to know who is strong and who is weak. i can't stress the importance of this because it is where your trading ideas are born.

I read every central bank statement as it gives me an understanding where the bankers concerns are and how they might act. Most central banks are not in the business to spook the market although some are awful at it.

Using indicators and tracking central banks gives me a roadmap of who to trade against each other. When data starts giving several deviations to one side successively, at increased regularity, or gradually; then you have a trade opportunity. If you can match apposing economies then you will have a shift in price to what will become a trend (long or short term). I chose what to trade based on strength and interest rate. It is far more profitable trading when the rollover is in your favour or as small as possible. Shifts generally associate with interest rates and as such you need to be aware of what sort of target you are looking for. What has worked well for me setting an initial target of 4 to 5 percent change from current prices. As shifts take a long time, I review momentum based on the underlying economy and if there is room I will trade again at a better price.

So long term trading for me is getting into multiple positions that can last for months at a time and repeated until the cycle changes.

intraday trades:
I trade deviations in the major indicator groups given when news is released. So for example if PMI is expected to be 50, was last 49 and comes out 53 then i am a buyer against a weaker currency. Likewise if its 47 then i am a seller. I will even open a position against a long term trade (taking partial profits in the long term trade at the same time and get back in at a better price). These deviations do not change the status of overall health of an economy but do over time. These deviations will impact the session and i can make anything from 50 to over 100 pips. Sometimes I front run the release and do so when i know a shift is taking place and have a good understanding of the direction it will likely unfold. I don't front run on the day of the release but perhaps a session or several beforehand.

Commodity affecting currencies:
its worth a note that i do trade based on energy (oil) and commodity data such as milk (NZ) or metals (AU). When oil news or reserve data comes out i will be looking to trade deviations with CAD.

tools:
i do general research using Eikon and also use it for instant printing of a data releases. As i have stated earlier i also use a site called tradingeconomics which is a gem of a tool for historical economic data.

planning:
i will plan the week ahead in terms of major economic data points and also daily. Basically i keep track of release times and days. The reason i said it is so important to study the summary paragraphs is because i don't include them in my planning. That is just essential back-work. Planning is nothing more than the schedule. My day is light in terms of research which i tend to do at night. This makes the day extremely simply and really a case of sitting on my ar5e and waiting for events to happen. Some days and even weeks there might not be much on. These are coincidentally the same weeks that chew technical traders up as you have sideways action.

Well that's enough for now. I hope it gives some clue as to my routine. if there are typos in here i am sorry i will fix them if i see then. I can't be bothered to read all i have written so fingers crossed its not muddled.

At them moment we have about £10k saved and I want to invest the lot and then start buying between £500 - £1000 shares every month or 2

Can anyone offer advice on an online Brooker and any other thoughts on the above

Thsee shares would be a long term investment rather than day or short term trades

Best trading Platform

Hey guys,

This is my first post here. I have been actively trading stocks for 10 mo. now with about 50% returns for that time. I started out w/ TD Ameritrade, but now am with Interactive Brokers and saving money with their commission structure. However, I HATE their platform, its laggy and just not sleek like Think or swim was. I am looking into switching brokers with a similar Commission structure as IB, or a 3rd party platform. I have had no luck finding something I like. Ninja Trader seemed awesome, but I cant afford $1000 for their software. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dean

My Trading Journey With Live Acc

I just took a trade on the $CL based off the start of a mini trend by the looks of it due to price being extended quite a bit and this looks like a pullback to make a higher low and a rally back up.

I have put a fibonacci on the price and know really I should wait for a bigger retrace but I'm new to trading futures and they seem to move in a different way to US stocks.

The RRR is around 1/1 on this and will be around 1/1.5 or more as price works it way up the trend.

Also used the macd and rsi a little to help me see where things may be heading, also my stop is just under the swing low. I missed the entry so it made my RRR 1:1 but I will change that slightly as price goes up and move it to .25 once the price is clearly through .50.

entry: 45.48

target: 46 (but will see if it can break through the round number it and break HOD at 46.17 and if it does I will stay in the trade and move my stop to 46 for a decent profit.

Would anyone say this is a good trade as it was not really based off a pattern of such just off the price wave, fib and indicators??

Newbie Trader Confused About Setups

Hi everyone I have a quick question I have been trading for a bit on paper and some real etc but not really been able to consistently pull a profit a mixed bag of results. Now this may sound stupid but I normally just trade off what I see I do use patterns but like to get in trades (I know I need to learn patience). So when I say trade off what I see I normally come to trading desk at opening and see whats moving and take small trades off it with no real plan for between 3+% with mixed results. I use price action and indicators to see where the weakness or strength is and just go off what I think which I know is not the best method.

So I'm wanting to know is it best to WAIT FOR A SETUP to appear off a pattern before I ever take a trade?

Also is this how the experienced traders trade?

I know these questions sound basic after my 8 months of learning but I'm not in any chat groups and not had chance to ask any traders them 2 questions.

Thanks guys!

Newbie Trader Confused About Setups

My Trading Introduction/Journey So Far

Hi fellow traders I have been learning to trade now for around 8 months daily. I have always had a interest in trading from years ago but at the time I only known about investing when I seen big FTSE100 companies getting hammered on their share price and rallying back which peaked my interest in investing etc but I just went about my life as normal for a year or so.

Then I started messing around with binary options for small gains and then all losses but I liked the way trading worked and decided to dedicate myself to it as its something I enjoy and could see myself doing. I went in search for trading us equities and come across Tim Sykes and learned a few things about penny shares and the US market by watching most of his DVD's which gave me some ok understanding of US markets and especially penny shares. Then I was paper trading using a chat room where there was a lot of people in it and I was buying the fast moving low float tickers and manage to double my paper account size in a month but I was doing this on paper so it may not of happened live because of the fills and spreads and a range of other things.

Now after doing trading like this I felt it was too fast paced and a bit like gambling especially after blowing my first account playing fast paced breakouts so I decided to learn more deeper into trading so for the next 6 months I learned everything about using MACD,RSI (especially divergences) and a range of different indicators which I do not use now. I have learned a lot about price action and US stocks and a lot about patterns thanks to coming across Dan Zanger and Thomas Bulkowski pattern work. For a few months I was using just the RSI and MACD including the 12,25 SMA overlays but then I decided to start playing patterns even though I keep all the indicators just mentioned to help with divergences in price action and in the indicators and to help with trends etc.

Now i'm around 8 months and just funded my second account with a small amount as its on a spread betting broker in the UK and I'm looking to trade more of the stock index futures and big board tickers such APPL, NFLX etc.

I must admit that my pattern recognition is quite good I am able to see most standard patterns in charts if they are there rather quickly compared to before and can trade off the patterns with a solid RRR.

Now i'm still off from being a consistent trader but getting their day by day its been a rough journey but I wouldn't change it for anything else.

Anyone scalping the INDEX Futures??

I thought I'd start this thread in the Trading Journals section because it gives me moderation powers.

I was a regular lurker and occasional contributor to another thread with a very similar name. Unfortunately it's gone down the pan recently and regulars know why.

I hope the same people who contribute useful/interesting/witty commentary on the other thread will post here (should they be in the same mind as I, of course).

Needless to say, if you have form on the other thread, you will not be able to post here.

I hope that one day, in the near future, I'll be able to rattle off my live calls with as much aplomb as the the regulars with whom I have a lot of respect - Then I can call it a Trading Journal!

I hope the Mods don't have an issue with this idea.

More than $50,000 in a year

Hey guys,
I recently created a trading system with great results. See the pictures below for results for the past year and with a $5.00 commission. I am currently trading it and I would like to benefit the both of us. The only issue is that I need help in finding a way that I can sell the signals or sell the system. I know some of you would say to try zulutrade or some signal providing website. The issue is that it trades the crude oil and the spreads for trading that symbol is very high. With zulutrade its 19 pips of spread! This strategy is highly recommended with futures trading. Anyways, please share ideas with me on how to sell these signals or how to benefit more from just trading them. And I know some people would think it might be a scam because there are a lot of them out there. But you can always try the trades out with a demo for a certain amount of time till you feel comfortable trading it.

Trading my Pension via a SIPP

Good afternoon all.
I have an old company pension that was first frozen, then transferred to a Friends Provident plan. I can no longer contribute towards it, so it's just sitting in one of their investment plans waiting for me to retire.

Does anyone here manage their own pension by trading FOREX? I've spoken to a company that claim they can transfer the pension to a SIPP which I can trade, but wanted to put the question on here for any advice, pointers, etc.

TIA

Todays USDJPY trades on 1M timeframe

Hi all

Have had a user for years but never used it as I was active on the forum InformedTrades which unfortunately is now gone. As my first post I'd like to show my entire trades of today, which is the first day of daytrading forex in a long time.

I have been using tradingview software, since the charts from my broker dukascopy are dissappointing in functions. I will give a quick comment of each trade, with entries marked black and numbered.

Click the image to open in full size.

1) mostly based on momentum and break of the horizontal level. Close to labelling this as a mistake now, as I missed the then recent turn at same level an hour before.

2) + 3) a short at intraday high. When this went to the area of the next entry marking I wanted to take off half of the trade size. Couldn't find the option to do this with dukascopy so went long with a new trade sized half of the original. Ended up closing the new trade back at point 2. Decided to keep original trade size on instead of closing half of that - which would make equal the same return as had I closed half of the short position when I wanted to.

4) Entry based on support level being recently strong and sharply defined. Had some momentum, then stopped out.

5) On even shorter timeframe than 1M there were signs of a rising triangle, which could confirm reversal at a level already established.

6) This level was at this point very clearly defined, which made for a possibility in setting a tight stop loss. This enabled me to set up a trade with 1:10 Risk:Reward - which eventually went through. Definitely an exception to see something like this set up and go home.

All in all 3 small losses. A short which turned into 2 separate trades, that both went through. Then eventually a homerun trade. Any questions welcome.

Trading the same company across multiple markets?

Hi all,

I presume the shares of one company are not homogenous across multiple markets?

So for example, HSBC is trading on NYSE at $39.24, whereas on LSE it closed today at 625.30 GBX. Converting the latter into USD, the LSE price is $7.84, which is a much lower price than the NYSE quote.

Is there an arbitrage opportunity here? For example, buy HSBC shares on LSE and immediately sell them on NYSE?

Trading on US markets from the UK

Hi all,

I am based in the UK and hope to trade on US markets.

From what I understand, I am subject to the same fees and commissions as American citizens and I can open a trade account with most brokers (obviously only those who support international accounts), wire funds into it from my UK bank account and then trade in dollars.

Is this correct? Am I missing something here? Can someone who trades in the US from abroad confirm or deny this?

Thank you!

Where to trade FTSE 10p per point? EUROSTOXX 10c per point?

I'm interested to find places were I can trade FTSE/EUROSTOXX at 10p/c per point. As in trades at 0.01 contracts. API access is a must too, such that I can analyse things properly.

Does e.g. interactive brokers, tradestation, ninjatrader etc. support that?

Some CFD providers in the UK do that, which is what I'm currently using but they commission or spreads are really big. 5 GBP per round trip contract or 4 points spread (which is effectively 40 GBP per round trip contract cost).

I want to be on the safer side of things, hence trading full contracts sizes is at the moment too much exposure for my account sizes.

Historical Data for Forex and Indices

Hi Guys,

Can anyone recommend a good provider of historical data suitable for backtesting in MetaTrader?

I'm looking for data for the indices, S&P, Dow, Russell 2000, etc, and preferably long term data over a 10 year period.

I currently use TickStory (who source data from Dukascopy), but data is limited to 5 years for the indices and it's quite patchy in the older data.

Any suggestions welcome, free or paid packages.

Thanks!

Why graduates are unemployed

Mention on the Brexit thread re subsidising engineering degrees in the UK sounded like a good way to drive up our skills base and enlarge GDP. I did a bit of Googling and came across some nice research into what happens to UK engineering graduates - 13% found to be unemployed, not just working in other fields, unemployed in all fields. The research focused on the unemployed graduates (apparently, amongst academic circles, this was an innovative approach!).

Main factors in (engineering) graduate unemployment include -
* no work experience of any kind
* no extra-curricular activities
* graduates preference for employment close to home
* other sectors (e.g. finance) offering better pay
* inability to apply technical skills and knowledge in a business or workplace context
* graduates applying to insufficient employers and too late in degree course
* weak job applications, e.g. incorrect spellings, inadequate research into the company etc.
* poor preparation for interviews.

All these seem easy to resolve.

Factors found not to be significant -
* degree type (MEng / BEng
* lack of vacancies

Interesting research, might apply pretty well to other degree courses too: bearing in mind engineering is a highly applied science-based degree with strong expectations for employment in the relevant field post-graduation.

T2W regularly sees graduates researching trading as an alternative to their degree subject as a field. Any comments from this group?

Any engineering employers on the site? Any university staff?

As a result of the outbreak over the red downtrend line at 0.963 EUR and a week-end price significantly above, an entry signal was generated that currently results in a new high at 1.20 EUR. The next targets are activated at 1.500 and 1.750 EUR and then go up to the 61st Fibonacci retracement at 1.95 EUR. Based on the current price level that would be an increase of almost 70%. In the medium term, 2.25 (ca.100%), 2.70 (ca.130%) and later also 3.59 (ca.210%) EUR could be possible targets.
Should the stock return to the range of 0.96 EUR again, we would get good entry possibilities with an excellent opportunity / risk ratio. Prices should not fall below 0.89 EUR anymore.

The Various Kinds of Signal Generating Services

People normally view forex trading as one of the biggest means to earn some easy bucks. Though this image is largely faulty, it has stuck over the years. It is indeed the lure of ‘quick and easy money’, which gets traders to the forex market. But as it goes, the reality is always a bit dour when compared to myths. Hence more than 90% of retails forex traders end up losing money in business most of the times, numerous studies reveal. But apparently that doesn’t deter people. And this is for good reasons too.

There are a host of tools, systems and mechanisms which assist people in trading forex in a way whereby they can maximize profits and prevent against losses. One foremost ‘tool’ of this kind is Forex Signals. To define signals, these are essentially suggestions to take trading positions on a particular currency pair at a given time and for a stipulated price. Signals are broadly of two types: One, when a human forex expert is making a studied observation and putting forward a suggestion; and Two—when a robot is generating trade signals based on the way it’s programmed to function. People normally trade in either one of the two ways: they may appoint a financial expert or manager to trade on their behalf. Or they might choose to trade by themselves with the aid of the aforementioned signals. (Information credit CornèrTrader)

So, how many kinds of signals exist and what are their uses? Read below to find out:
1. Investor services: This is essentially what is called a ‘high end’ or ‘upper-class’ variety of signal service, and hence comes for a hefty price. Here, you’re required to park a considerable amount of sum with the signals as money. After all the necessary deductions have been made, you’re going to get a monthly or annual return from the amount that you have invested. In a way, this is just like hiring a money manager to trade on your behalf and without aid from signals. Here’s one thing you need to keep in mind: Go for this signal service only when you have managed to save up huge whopping amounts as forex investment capital.

2. Provider of Signals: These are more oriented towards serving the needs of retail traders. When a signals provider is being used, the fees can be either time-framed based or related to performance. Typically, these services give the trader access to a page where all signals are stored and displayed. The signals include suggestions for stop-loss, take-profit and ‘buy’ or ‘sell’ order prices. These are fairly reliable most of the time, but finding a signal provider, which has an almost-flawless track record with providing the guaranteed returns, is quite difficult. Also, signals are not going to do the whole work for you. You need to learn how to manage your position in order to minimise/ward off losses and take a trading position in the correct time.

3. Copy Trading: This is also called “mirror trading” sometimes. This lets you copy or mimic the trading styles and positions of other traders in the market. This is not much expensive and you can trade in an automated manner on certain platforms by choosing copy trading. All you have to do is to specify the amount you want to invest in the trade and the lot size per trade.

Basically, these three are the main types of signal providing services which exist in the forex market.

The Various Kinds of Signal Generating Services

To: Elliott Wave experts or enthusiasts only

Can anyone here divulge and tell me the relationship between the 1.618 fibonacci extension and with certain elliott wave patterns and which you prefer to use it in conjunction with? I'm also not talking about everything being divisible by or into 1.618 and extending and all these other scenarios I'm speaking solely specifically on the 1.618 retracement or extension etc. I'm also not talking about using it for a take profit level...

Boiler room scam 2008

Hi
way back in 2008 I was communicating with a member of t2w by the name of cawley, from all the posts I read it seems that intersecurities/California securities of panama was bogus and the various "shares" purchased never actually existed. I wondered if the German authorities ever came up with answers as the whole scam was based in Frankfurt.

Regards

Bob

Trading other stuff

Surely there must be possibilities for people interested in trading other stuff, now that the Gbp has fallen so much.
Maybe buy antiques here in the UK and sell in the US ?
I see Jesse and Shaun from the TV reality programmes have been here buying. Jesse bought a Ferret armoured car amongst other things to export back to California.
Perhaps the transport of the object rather cuts the profit margin though. Some countries like the US, Japan and China love buying back their treasures from Europe. Well many of them have the money now.
Glad to hear of your Ebay etc. experiences.

Newbie questions on binary options

Hi all

I'm based in the uk and as a newbie researching the world of trading I would like to hear your opinions on binary option trading. The amount of money I can afford to trade with small, circa £250 to learn with. I haven't been on the forum long but after reading a few threads it seems experienced traders prefer other types of trade. It would be great to hear people's experiences with binary options, if they stuck with it, or if not then why?

Thanks in advance

The Queen Wants to Annex the U.S.

Funny...and some interesting points...

To the citizens of the United States of America from
Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II:

In light of your tendency to propose uncivilized
people for public office who masquerade as the leader
of the world, and thus your tendency to elect
completely incompetent Presidents who then want to
rule the world when you cannot govern yourselves, we
hereby give notice of the revocation of your
independence, effective immediately. (You should look
up ‘revocation’ in the Oxford English Dictionary.)

Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will resume
monarchical duties over all states, commonwealths, and
territories except Arkansas, which she does not fancy
and will confine the Clintons to its borders to spare
the rest of the world from their shenanigans including
their pretend charity that launders money for their
escapades.

Your new Prime Minister, Theresa May, will appoint a
Governor for America without the need for further
elections since you cannot manage to select suitable
candidates in any event. Furthermore, Congress and the
Senate will be disbanded in a fortnight and given bus
passes for the ride home, for their private jet
privileges will be revoked. Given they do nothing
anyhow other than raise taxes, I terribly doubt that
any of you will notice the change.

Whilst there will no longer be any need for any
elections and your old slogan of “no taxation without
representation” was a catchy phrase, your Congress
never represented you anyway so that was a meaningless
gesture with no substance confirming you are too
foolish to govern yourselves no less the world. Your
debt is beyond any capacity of being repaid and your
politicians have no intention of ever paying off the
debt anyway yet borrow year after year without
explanation. Mr. Thomas Jefferson, who we tried to
hang for treason but could not catch him to impose the
king’s justice, was at least correct in saying that
your debt forces people to be taxed for generations
before and are thus subjected to “no taxation without
representation” since they were not even alive.

Since your election has put forth a criminal and a
vulgarian, you leave me no choice but to revoke you
independence and reassert our right to manage our
former colony. This is the precedent of China with
Tibet and Russia with Ukraine. Therefore, we are
justified in this action forthwith given there is
international precedence for this decree.
You will learn to now say “God save the Queen.”

Your Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II
House of Windsor

Forex Rebates

Dear members,

I am researching forex brokers that pay traders rebates for their trading volumes.

So far, I found the broker that is openly offering such rewards is Yadix. They have four programs (plus a VIP program I've not learnt about yet).

Out of the four publicly offered, the best value one I think is the account of 2 pips and a rebate of $12 per lot. So in essence, I trade 100 lots a month, I get back $1200 in cash back.

Does any other broker offer such deals so I can start to compare?

Thanks

Gary

Ever had a look at Laguna Blends (C.LAG)?

I did quick analysis of the stock. Looks very bullish to me. From a short term perspective courses of 0.50 EUR are possible, but might get even higher considering the hype and boom of the Canadian cannabis stocks market. I think that’s the case with ALL Canadian cannabis related stocks. If Trudeau passes the legalization bill next year, the market will completely explode.
Should there be a small consolidation, which I doubt at the moment, prices between 0.24 and 0.20 EUR would be good opportunities to get in or rebuy.

UK High Court Rules Parliament Must Vote on Brexit Article 50

Original Post Here

MP vote ruled necessary for an Article 50 trigger in the UK

The British pound is soaring this morning because the UK high court decided today that parliament must vote on whether or not to trigger article 50. This does not mean the end of a BREXIT, where the popular vote is what originally carried this through, MPs would be hard pressed to act against their constituents in a manner that would prevent them from reelection. That said, the major issue here is that this act can no longer be done more or less discretely by the UK government itself. There will have to be hearings, assessments, voting and the complete hullabaloo for an act this big to be passed.

What exactly does that mean? It means that in order for parliament to come to a decision many of the UK negotiations may come to the forefront into the public eye before any deals are written in stone, therefore exposing their own hand before the last bet is in place.

Click the image to open in full size.

Ask yourself, when has adding a layer of bureaucracy to a complicated situation ever been a good thing?

That said the main focus of this particular battle was one of process rather than politics.

Quote:

Ms Miller said: “This case was about process not politics. My dedicated team are absolutely delighted to be able to be part of this debate and to bring some sobriety as we go forward.”
Basically the concern was that leaving the triggering of Article 50 up to the UK government alone would be constitutionally crossing the boundaries on prerogative powers. That decisions of this magnatude should be left up to the people, ie parliament.

Quote:

The legal challenge was brought by fund manager Gina Miller with others including a Spanish hairdresser and expats living in France.

The crux of the legal challenge was whether the government could use royal prerogative powers — the residue of powers once held by the monarch — to trigger Article 50 without a parliamentary vote. The government argued prerogative powers cover foreign affairs, including the making and unmaking of treaties, and no parliamentary vote is needed.
Like I said above, parliament could entirely block BREXIT, but it is more likely that it will be delayed and continue to be delayed until all parties can come to some sort of agreement, hence the reference to an exposed hand as far as trade deals and such with other nations, putting the UK at risk of being taken advantage of in the global market place.

The pound took off because this situation is thought to bring much less of a threat of a hard BREXIT and an extended timeline for the assumed collapse of their economy.

I've noticed this, however I don't know if it is a legitimate pattern. Does anyone know if this pattern has a name?

It seems to outline short term trading ranged with support and resistances but know anything else about it. Please let me know.

Trading Connection

Good Day
I have idea of making a connection between Trading System

The Connection
__________________________________________________ _______________________
Introduction
Now days trading have move the market to high level but the trading system can be in different countries and that make impassible for trad companies to calculate and join other countries trading system.

__________________________________________________ _________________________________
The Connection
let's take example of Sudan Pound SDG and United State of America USD how to make the connection

let's say the 1 USD = 2.7 SDG

and some USA company have a trading system in Sudan , The system works with SDG

The system account user's have put the sum of 2700 SDG what's mean 1000 USD

the %1.2 for the trading company , the system have reach 4000 SDG , the company will take from every user %1.2 in SDG that will be convert to USD witch is 48 USD , the trading will work with the country currency , the currency will be converted to dollars , the mean currency is bitcoin, the coins as normally converted to any currency.

*- That's mean the Trading companies must have a bit coin wallets.
*- The Trading system must be connect to the country financial service through API.
*- Prefer to use Manager ( Manager.io) or alternative with same system to calculate each country fund.
*- The company can connect different currencies stocks or companies in one platform.
*- The currency stocks because the printing press is Trapped for countries and the currency trading is not legal in most of countries the companies can but stocks value of the currency.

Point & Figure Patterns: trade success statistics

So yesterday night I've come across this interesting document from Fidelity which says that a "triple top" pattern in a point and figure chart with 60 day hold has a 91.71% success rate and 11.7% on average trade.

That seems really really strange, but what do you think? I can't believe those rates, do you?

Stocks to Earn Monthly Dividends in 2017

If you don’t want to expose your investments to relatively less-known companies with risky business models, one potential way out is to buy solid dividend-paying stocks with staggered quarterly payout schedules. For example, you can build your dividend-paying portfolio by picking stocks with monthly dividend stocks.

I want to learn more about such stocks that give out monthly dividends. Any views on this anyone?

'Candlesticks are useless and arbitrary' yeh but no?

Whilst a lot of traders use candlestick charts, there does seem to be quite a lot of backlash lately towards time-based charts. This is of course quite logical, at first, because , really, why should a daily chart have any more significance than a 23H chart? a H1 chart over a 55M chart?

When using candlesticks, there is no doubt about it, you are slicing time into neat little intervals, say the naysayers, whilst volume-based or trend based bars 'smooth out noise'.

I can see the logic in this argument. The problem is, literally every single broker or charting software starts off with W1 D1 H4 H1 30M 15M 5M, like every time. I get the feeling that there are a hell of a lot more traders looking at where a daily or weekly candlestick closes than a 23hr chart close. In my opinion, then, candlesticks and time-based charts are from quite a basic view, irrelevant, but on the other hand, so many traders use them, and the vast majority of traders using candlesticks seem to focus on a few timeframes.

Not to say that volume or tick bars have no relevance, I think they are brilliant too.

What do you guys think?

:)

'Candlesticks are useless and arbitrary' yeh but no?

Here is why I think candlestick patterns have no value: with example

The issue I see with candlestick charts is that the same values produce different charts if the time is offset. So a pin bar can be "produced" if you offset the time, but if you don't then there is no pin bar. So I was thinking... If I just offset the time by 1s/1m/1h can have different patterns, what is the point of looking at those patterns? Just because happened to be the right offset doesn't mean anything...

For example on the hour chart in a country that has +30m timezone offset, will see all hourly charts completely different. Same with the daily charts between countries, they are different in all countries. So what is the point if the patterns appears in some countries but not in others?

What do you think?

Image 1:
Check attachment of the same chart. On the left you can see the pin bar, on the right you cannot, but the chart is the same, just a bit of offset.

Image 2:
The candlestick are different between providers
- 1st Ig
- 2nd livecharts
- 3th investing

Notice:

- IG vs livecharts and investing: Ig has an extra tick highlighted in black. That happens because of the time offset.
- livecharts vs investing: bottom right images, you can see the differences in the candlesticks. They are almost the same, but not the same.

Image 3:
So what do you think about point and figure charts? They change based on trend change and not on time. Check out http://ift.tt/2fiI1AV
