Free paper trading and market replays?

I have been searching and trying to find a platform to paper trade and provide market replays for free. Those that offer them either are for short trials or would cost me fortune to use. I am learning towards technical analysis of stocks for now. I have tried NinjaTrader but it does not provide market replay data for stocks.

Any recommendations for this peasant?

Feeling defeated before even starting!

Hi,

I have spent the last 5 months just reading books and watching videos (Anton Kreill)

So far I have worked my way through Tim Sykes: 'An American Hedgefund',(penny stocks). reminiscences of a stock operator by Edwin lefevre and Market Wizards by jack schwager.

My ultimate/dream goal is to be able to work self employed as a trader but every other post I read seems to contradict each other and warn me off against either being a day trader or forex trader.

The one thing I have noticed is that a lot of the big game winners seem to trade futures but literally, everyone warns newcomers off that until they are seasoned veterans of the industry.

So I kind of feel lost. Do I spend the next 6 months understanding the fundamentals of stocks or the technicals of forex? Or should I look at a completely different industry all together?

Taxation & National Insurance question - UK Trader/Investor

Good evening all.

I have been turning a profit mainly through spread betting and some trading and investing in my stocks and shares ISA for about 18 months now.

I am a single male and UK citizen for tax puroposes. I have one other source of income from a rental property which comes no where near to my personal income tax allowance, (the latter is £11,000 this year I believe). I complete a self assessment form every year for the rental income.

I recently had my 59th birthday, with the new pension rules I am not eligible to claim state pension until I am 67. Being aware that I have had a shortfall in the number of years to qualify for a full state pension I decided to get a pensions report from the National Insurance office to see how the land lies. By now you're probably thinking this guy is writng in the wrong forum or he should be getting on to HMRC. However, please bare with me I will get on to how this relates to my trading/investing in a moment and how you may be able to help me.

The report informed me that I needed to make up seven years of NI contributions to qualify for a full state pension of £155 per week. Based on my current record that payment would only be £105. So my options to qualify for a full pension are:

1) Find employent for the next seven years! (Which I financially do not need, not to mention the mental and spiritual disadvantages.... only joking:-)
2) Pay voluntary NI contributions of approximately £4900! (7 x £700)
3) Find self employment for the next seven years and pay national insurance this way. I understand that there is a lower earnings limit below which one is not liable to pay NI. If I recall correctly it is £5,824, however if one does fall in to this catergory there is an option to pay volantary contribution as a self employed person. This currently amounts to £134 per annum, considerably less than the £700 per annum I would need to contribute under my current status.

Being aware of the astuteness of the members of T2W I have a feeling you all know where I'm going with this :-)

Number 3) is my preferred option. What I have in mind is to open and ordinary share dealing account and fund it and register as a self employed trader. I can then just copy the trades I do in my spread betting or ISA account keeping the profits lower than the lower earnings limit for national insurance. This will keep me below the freshold for being assessed for national insurance on profits and below my personal tax allowance including my rental income.

My only concerns are that my understanding of UK taxation is that gains from trading are categorised as income whereas gains from investing are subject to CGT. My trades in the proposed share dealing account would be swing trades therefore, would the profits be subject to CGT and would I still be able to opt in to voluntarily paying national insurance contributions as a self employed person?

If you got this far, thank you very much for your time and a bigger thank you in advance if you can offer some advice. Peace.

FXpro over IG

Hi All

Quite new to this and looking for a user friendly broker, I see that FXpro is ranked number 1 in the reviews and IG is way down the ranks.

I use IG but find it not very user-friendly at times and not sure that its as good as they claim (get calls from them every other day) with so many to choose from I would welcome anyone's thoughts.

I trade CFDs as I understand they are more close to the real market (pure vanity as I think spread bet is no different than placing a bet on a horse, silly I know but emotion is a key factor to success or so I am told ) mainly the FT100 which works for me

Anyway what are the real reasons for FX to be top as on reading many a thread no real winner can be found when choosing a broker as all seem to have their fans and haters

Was hoping someone knows of such an indicator and would share its name with me.

I have to think someone has done this already buy have not found it yet.
I would greatly appreciate any help

Hi Everyone. In this thread I will try to post my full analysis of market in term of 3 - day cycle pattern and Stop hunt areas. This is most reliabel method on forex market, couse it hit the core of how price move. I have big knowledge about this (hundreds hours of lessons and courses by many teachers). Darren Winters?

Hi Guys,
I went to a Darren Winters seminar on Saturday in London and was impressed with the amount of information that I received.

I thought that it was well worth £100 inc. lunch and coffee BUT I know that many on T2W would say the exact opposite. One thread listed a Guardian article on Darren that I should read but unfortunately the link is now broken.

Darren appears to have been around a long time, the FREE 6 DVD set that I was given, includes a recording of one of his two day courses when he must have been 10 years younger!

I am currently considering signing up for his "Apprenticeship" but as I only have a total trading fund of £7k at present, it would take a large chunk of that!

He cited many of his "apprentices" that had made very good returns and some that must have taken a punt and won, as they made stupid profits (if true)!

I want to swing trade on LSE shares and his system appeared logical and he does give the same basic advice to limit losses etc. and only invest 1-2% of your fund on any one trade.

I understand all that as I have been end -of-day trading for a couple of years now but not making much profit but also not much loss either!

I really want to progress and I currently have a month or so to really focus on trading so any advice on the above or how to make that transition from part-time to full-time trading would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks
Ian

Mentors and Intra Day Traders

Everyone has the right to waste their money anyway they see fit.

But really how dumb is dumb.

Years of solid scientific unbiased evidence clearly shows that Intra Day Trading is a losers game.

Most go bust sooner, in the end all go bust.

Don't take my word for it, this information is free on the internet.

So how come multitudes of mug gamblers still don't get the message.

Keep in mind your friendly day trading Mentor asking £1000 for a crash day trading course is in all probabilities a Failed Day Trading Gambler Holic.

Not interested in wealth creation but rather topping up their gambling account for that instant adrenalin rush that feels soooo goood.

As our Nan say's, society wouldn't function without fools and nor would the markets.

Proposal - Open SOurce Trading SW - Open AI Desk

Hello traders, programmers, analysts, e-coiners.

I would like to introduce you to an idea of mine: An generic, free & open source trading platform which enables you to automate you trades by an generic way.
You don't need to learn platform specific tasks and behavior for every provider you are making use of.

You might say: "One moment, there are still generic ways to trade". That's right, but please give me the chance to explain the benefits of my idea.

First of all, lets perform an inventory:

The traditional idea of money gets more and more replaced by virtual, decentralized new currencies: in general e-coins. To participate to these new currencies, you need a computer.

Many stock-exchanges in this area as well as traditional financial institutions providing us API's, which enables us to use third party software to execute trades or, at least, letting us query our account balance and market prices.

There are also software products, which enables us to perform trades and queries. These solutions are either local deployed programs or server based products behind an commercial supplier.

Why there is the need of a new solution:

The existing solutions have all a few disadvantages together: the locally deployed programs cannot be used on mobile devices and entail the necessary that the PC, which runs the program, is online and turned on all the time.

On the other hand, with the provider based solutions, as you can suggest, you have a vendor lock-in. Free open source currencies and vendor lock-In's are a bad match and doesn't comply with the spirit of open source.

How does a good solution should look like:

A good solution must be capable to be deployed locally as well as in the cloud. The handling must be comfortable with a desktop and mobile device. It must be scalable and easy to install. Last but not least, it must use of state of the art technology and it must be extensible.

The software must be free to use and open source.

My idea:

My architecture draft from an general point of view:
https://ibb.co/kcObLa

All parts of the software are Python based; there are many tutorials outside which picking up Python as the preferred language for analytics tasks.

Connectors: the connector layer enables to use different kinds of data sources. This part of the architecture is one which I can contribute to by myself. I wave written a C library for Kraken.com which I'm currently using as a base of a Python 3.x API (still under development).
http://ift.tt/2kIFWpb

Algorithmic Operations: This layer inherits all the useful libraries that makes Python to a powerful tool for analytics operations.

GUI: I could create a PyQT based GUI for this purpose, but this would lead into a one way street. To make this software more general, a web-based solution (like the I2P router console) would be a better solution. Unfortunately, I'm not into web development. I have chosen django because as far as I have heard you cant do much wrong with a django approach.

All parts are fit together in a docker container which allows an easy installation.

Thats my proposal: Feedback, suggestions, criticism welcome!

Do I need a sharedealing account to receive dividends?

I got some shares from share options, and when I had them at home as share certificates I did not get any dividends. I opened a share dealing account just because I was afraid that I the share certificates could get destroyed or lost.
Once I opened the account with HSBC invest direct, I started getting dividends transferred into my current account, which was nice of course.
But now HSBC is going to close all share dealing accounts of non UK residents, unless they keep depositing £500 monthly into their current account.
I do not wish to transfer money regularly to the UK, so HSBC is either going to sell my shares, allow me to transfer them to another broker, or mail the certificates back to me.
I just want to keep receiving my dividends, that's all, I do not wish to trade.
Sure I could transfer the shares to another broker, but the problem is that most brokers nowadays also are reluctant in taking new accounts from non UK residents.

Percentage of Winning Traders - The real numbers

There is an on going perpetual conversation on T2W about the actual percentages of winning traders on FX. This conversation goes on and on and around in circles and never gets anywhere.

But when the government ask you, "Would you like each FX, Spread and CFD provider to provide you with those figures at the first point of contact". You lot completely ignore them and fail to answer. You lot are unbelievable.
And no doubt you will continue to argue the point for years to come. There is no helping some people.

I have made two posts about the FCA's proposed changes and consultation to FX (and other) trading. And there has been no interest on this site whatsoever.

So I will try again.

IF YOU WANT EVERY UK COMPANY TO ISSUE THEIR PERCENTAGE OF PROFITABLE TRADERS THEN CLICK ON THIS LINK AND TELL THEM. (you have until the 7th March to find out.)

http://ift.tt/2ggCgJ4

IF YOU DO NOT WANT THE LEVERAGE CHANGED FROM 25:1 TO 4:1, THEN CLICK ON THIS LINK AND TELL THEM.

http://ift.tt/2ggCgJ4

They want to hear from retail traders as well as people in the industry. It is a very short questionnaire, you don't even need to answer all questions. Under the question, which company are you from, enter N/A if you are a retail trader.

My opinion is yes to more transparency, tell us the percentages. And No to greater margin requirements, I have told them I prefer limited loss accounts for new traders to protect them rather than greater margin requirements (This is the line the that the large companies are pushing too.) I believe this will offer greater protection (while letting profitable traders get on with their trading) After all greater margin = more money in the account = eventual greater loss for the new trader.

Complete beginner, point me in the right direction

Hi all, I'm totally clueless to trading, but want to give it a solid go
Seems fun and exciting, I'm pretty smart and a quick learner

My questions are where's the best place to learn everything from scratch?
Maybe the best book for a total beginner who knows nothing about the subject
Literally need something like "trading for dummies"

I've looked online and on this forum
And a lot of the material is more for people who have a rough idea of what they are doing, and not for a total beginner

What's the best trading platform to use?

And why spread betting and not forex trading?
What are the key differences, I've read it's all about not paying tax on spread betting, however I have noticed that quite a few people still trade forex

Betfair Trading Strategies

Hello everyone,

I would like to know if I could find any like minded people who are interested in trading bets on Betfair betting exchange? I've been a full-time trader on Betfair since 2006 and I'm curious if this forum does have any Betfair traders here.

My main interest was always in so called "Pre-race" horse racing trading. Especially British & Irish racing in the last 10 minutes before the start of the race.

I'm using a software directly connected to Betfair API and I'm mostly trading the price action. I take advantage of short term fluctuations in the market and my style could be definitely described as "scalping".

My typical trade does take 10-30 seconds - it's very quick.

The interesting part of my trading is that I have zero knowledge of horse racing. I just trade the price action I see in the DOM interface.

Anybody out there?

Looking For Trending Stocks

Hi Folks,

I'm fairly new to the trading scene, I have done a good bit of testing and research and I'm going to be starting my live account next week.

I will be spread betting stocks, good strong trending stocks to be more specific and so I've come here to hopefully get some help and even some insight into this kind of stock trading from more experienced traders.

I'm basically looking for some help to compile a list of good strong trending stocks that I can look to go short or long and hold the position for 1-3 months.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Steven

Urgent - Spread Betting & FX Government Intervention - Last Chance

The Government (FCA) want to change the law on Spread Betting/CFD's and FX trading. This could mean a ten-fold increase in the margin required to open a position.
The government want to hear your view by the 7th March. This is your last chance to have your say.

They want to change the Required Margins, these changes mean for example that a £10 FTSE bet:

Current margin requirement: £355 margin (0.5% x 10 x 7100)

Proposed margin:

-Clients with more than 12 months’ trading experience: £1775 margin (2.5% x 10 x 7100) and..
-Clients with less than 12 months’ trading experience: £3550 margin (5% x 10 x 7100)

The FCA has produced a quick online form, for you to have your say, here is the link:

http://ift.tt/2ggCgJ4

Don't complain about any changes made if you haven't bothered to let them know.
Under the question what company are you from put N/A if you are a retail trader and you don't have to answer all questions.

To have to load my account up with 5-10x the account size to achieve the same results seems excessive to me.
One of my objections is that this will mean the spread bet companies will hold on to more of your money than ever before.

Is there a single organised prop firm you can buy into in London left?

Just a quick one:

I'm aware there are desks in arcades etc going and they do great work at filling a niche, but is there a single "full" prop firm left that takes on self funded traders without any BS? I note a lot of the old firms who used to do so still operate, but they all seem to be clearing houses now, a la Marex.

Looking online there's a bunch of props wistfully looking for top tier grads for algo development (good luck with that), but I'm failing to see much in the way of old fashioned props where you could rock up with 50k and get a desk in EC.

Cheers

Option Time Value Calculation

Hello,

In IB TWS they have a time value column which is displayed as an annualized percentage. This calculation uses all days, not just trading days. I confirmed with them a moment ago. So doing it this way, two different expiry's in the same week appear to have less or more value when they really don't.

For example. Today is Friday, Monday is a holiday. There are 2 expiry's next week for the SPY, Wednesday and Friday. Besides today, Wednesday has 2 trading days, and Friday has 4 trading days. The program is showing the following time values.

SPY Wed Bid - 0.06 - TV = 1.87%
SPY Friday Bid - 0.10 - TV = 2.23%

Wednesday - 2 trading days = 0.03 loss per trading day
Friday - 4 trading days = 0.025 loss per trading day.

If I added today as a day it would still be 0.02 for both and not more for Friday

Is this not what we all should be looking at? am I missing something?

Thanks!!!!

Please help trying to buy a 1970 "mobile home"

I'm sorry if this isn't really a proper place to post these questions but people here seem to know about financing and I'm getting desperate to try to find a reasonable solution to the situation if there is one. I'm trying to get a mortgage to buy a home that involves an older 1970 mobile home. It's on its own .48 acre lot, not in a trailer park. The home is listed as 12x56 but it's much wider than that because more rooms and roof were added on to it. You can't see the mobile home part at all any more. It's on a cinder block foundation and has a shingle roof in good condition that an assessor said looks to be about 4 years old. It even has a small basement where the furnace is. My credit score is very good, but no place I've talked to will deal with a mobile home older than 1976. Can anyone suggest a place that will, or might? I've looked into a personal loan but the only option I've looked into so far is too high a monthly payment for me to afford because it's only a 7 year loan at 11%+ interest.

If I get a personal loan and then make the purchase at that point I own the home and property, isn't that correct? Then wouldn't I be able to use the home and property as collateral for another secured loan, with lower interest and more time to pay? And if so, is there some way to arrange it all from the start instead of having to go through more than one loan? Or can anyone suggest any other options?

Thank you for any help!
David

fast moving momentum trade, market or limit order?

good morning.

have started paper trading with the TC2000 software.

1. with regard to entering trades (momentum type intraday trades, stocks) i see i can
get filled fairly fast by entering as a "market" buy, but i see from slippage many times
i am overpaying a bit. A limited add doesn't get me filled very fast, and by the time i
do get filled it could possibly be too late.

what is the best technique to prevent this? for example a "limited" buy with a "0"---
would this get me filled almost as fast at my specific price point?

2. let's say i enter a trade and it gives a good upward spike. So i want to add shares. Let's
say i entered the trade, it is making $, i have a tight stop on it which i can manually adjust
with this software, so if i add another 500 (or 5000 shares), can the initial stop i have in
place control all adds, or do i need to create a new stop for each add?

(i'm hopeful that i can control and save any gains with only my initial stop i placed with
my 100 share buy)

thanks for any insight.

Trading options - SLA - Day job

Hi everyone.

I'm going to combine this first post as my personal and my journal introduction.

Personal (Cliff's notes version):
-I have a career thus trade weekly/daily/hourly charts (no day-trading)
-I have a wife and 2 young children (3 and 7m)
-I live in the US

That should pretty much tell you the direction my trading is going to go.

Journal Introduction:
I trade stocks and options (mainly options). My first foray into trading was with options, so I kinda learned that before equities. I've become fed up with the commercially advertised methods of trading using lagging indicators and moving averages so I began studying up on trading price. As one can imagine, threads involving the Straight Line Approach (SLA) immediately caught my eye. I enjoy it because it doesn't involve pre-determined targets, but rather you seek out areas of interest where price may reverse, and once it does you enter and then just draft behind price. Sure you miss the top and bottoms, but once you're out, you more than likely got the bulk of the current move. This should be interesting because trading stock is one thing, where as long as you're out above your initial entry, you profit, however with options the floor is constantly rising.

I don't pretend to be an expert in anything so this thread is more of me illustrating my prep, my notes, my trades (to be transparent, I'll be sticking to paper until it proves profitable), and my many many questions. Hopefully DB, and Gringo, and others who trade and are knowledgeable in this area can chime in when necessary.

Thank you very much....here we go.

breakeven strategy

hello. My name is Ilgar. I am from Azerbaijan. i have a few knowledge about forex trading. I saw in internet there are many brokers that offers promotions - deposit bonuses , rebate programs, cashback programs and so on. I have a 10000 usd capital in my electronic wallet. I want to start to trade with these promotions .After reading terms of these promotions i understand that to earn additional money from these promotions i must to trade a lot of time and in worst case trade to breakeven. Is there any breakeven forex strategy that opens many positions in a day and that i can use to trade with these promotions ? Or it is not worth to participate in those promotions ? Please give me advice.Thanks.

From UK looking to day trade US stocks BUT with $25,000 starting balance

Hey guys,
Very new to these forums but found them helpful when looking for certain info as I am looking forward to diving into the world of day trading.

A quick question that I have searched for but don't seem to be finding great results on is what is the best or one of the better brokers for a UK resident to use to trade US stocks when you have the initial $25,000 account minimum?

I have no desire to risk all $25,000 and will continue using a demo account for a while longer and once into the real thing will start with small amounts until consistently profitable but I would like to know which would be the best broker to go for once 'I am out of the gate' so to speak. There are several areas I have 'sort of' found the info I was looking for but have not really found a final answer specifically for a UK trader wanting to day trade US stocks but with the the required $25,000 starting balance? Most answers seem to lean more to those without the required minimum and much higher commissions.

Are Interactive Brokers still one of the better ones?

Any help appreciated :)

Thank you.

Euro and Pound system generating 40% monthly

Hello! I'm starting this thread to track my progress live of my trading system right now. Trading Euro+Pound for this live thread. All trades have a defined profit target and risk assessment. Below is the results for this year so far and if interested I do have the same results for last year. The results are REALLY good and with all my live testing and 11 years to get to this point I'm very confident in my systems. Also testing in the background a few other pairs including Gold and Silver. I will update results here at weeks end when the market is closed.

I expect around 40% per month with prior results just trading Euro and the Pound. How can I get my signal listed on this website? Any questions you may ask here and I'll update as soon as I notice or message me on Skype fxtraderpro1 .

There are limitations in the system, it couldn't handle more than $50m at a time.

Major market moving events

I'm curious to see how various currency pairs moved intra-day following significant market events.

There's this really fascinating post over on babypips showing how the 6 Oct 2016 flash crash in GBPUSD unfolded.

I wondered if any of you could point to tight timeframe charts of other significant market moving events across any currency pair?

A few examples in the front of my mind:

1. The CHF flash crash of 2015 - all I can find which is at all insightful is this post from FXCM

2. 11 Mar 2011 when the Japan earthquake triggered a tsunami. Was it just the JPY pairs impacted and how?

3. 6 May 2010 when the US markets lost a trillion dollars over a 36-minute period following a series of "spoof" trades. How did the various currency pairs react?

4. 29 Sep 2008 when the banks almost busted the global economy. Again how did different FX pairs react?

Democracy. Is it worth defending ?

I never really thought about democracy much until recent years. It always seemed muddled and confused.
However as I see the Far Right Wing parties gathering strength in Europe, the USA and Asia I really do fear that if they get into power by being elected they may well disregard the rule of law etc. to gain a tighter hold on power.
In fact once elected they may well use repression to knock out their political oppositions and refuse to hold new elections at the end of their term.

Churchill once famously said that democracy was a pretty poor system but no one has come up with a better one. What do you say ?

DMA Brokers and Bonuses?

I've been testing the Yadix scalper account with a scalping EA. I'm impressed with the conditions, spreads and execution, but I am disappointed that there are no bonuses available at Yadix.

I am used to getting trading bonus from similar accounts at different brokers. When I asked their support why no bonuses were available, they explained to me that because they are an STP broker, giving bonus is a risk for them as I'll be trading with their money, and as trades are executed to the banks, any losses need to be paid to the banks.

I am not following the logic fully, so would like to ask if anyone can help me understand the logic here?

When Price Action Dissociates from Data – Reliable Trading Indicators to Spot the Tre

I have witness some interesting price action this week. In this article I want to speak about some particular set-ups that prove to be very reliable and profitable indicators: when the price action is diverging from the newly published data.

(Original Article here)

I have two recent examples in mind:

(1) Market rising despite bad news.

Context:

We were in a downtrend between Monday 06.02 and Wednesday 08.02. After reaching the top of the range the previous week the prices were heading lower.

The API report went out on Tuesday night and there was a gap lower to $54.60 (Brent).

Next day (08.02): EIA report which confirms the huge build-up in inventories.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration on Wednesday reported a fifth straight weekly increase in crude-oil supplies that was much more than the market expected. Inventories climbed by 13.8 million barrels in domestic crude-oil supplies for the week ended Feb. 3. The American Petroleum Institute late Tuesday reported 14.2 million-barrel jump, according to sources, while analysts polled by S&P Global Platts forecast a climb of 2.5 million barrels.

Yet this happened:

Click the image to open in full size.

Hourly Brent Chart ($)

Despite this news the market had a big leg up (black arrow). And then went higher and higher for the rest of the week.

When he market is rising despite bad news, go long.

I can’t explain the underlying forces that drove the market higher, but I think the whole point is to understand the “mood” of the market. If you see prices going higher on bad news, you can be sure there are huge buying pressure and you can ride the tide without too much concerns.

(2) Market dropping despite good news

Yesterday, Monday 13.02.2017 we could witness quite the same phenomenon.

OPEC published a pretty bullish report (better demand data for 2016, better demand expectations for 2017, reaffirming that the market will be balanced in 2017..) . Yet, after an initial leg up the market went down (black arrow is the time the OPEC’s report was released).

Click the image to open in full size.
Hourly Brent Chart ($)

The following move was less exaggerated that for the previous example but we saw a pretty significant drop nonetheless.

When the market is dropping despite good news, go short.

Conclusion

I think those two example show the importance of not relying only on the hard data. The oil market is way more complicated. Sometimes the price action seems to be very very irrational but who cares? We just need to understand who has the upper hand – the bulls or the bears – and go with them.

Trading rules:

When he market is rising despite bad news, go long.
When the market is dropping despite good news, go short.

Pro Trading Strategy

Hi Guys,

i recently found a nice strategy. The Pro Trading Strategy was created by Navin Prithyani some years ago.

The Pro Trading Strategy will train traders on how to identify key Japanese candlesticks to define the proper time to enter the market. This strategy must be complemented by Support and Resistance lines and an exit trade methods.

LEARN TO IDENTIFY EXHAUSTION CANDLES

Click the image to open in full size.

Exhaustion Candle: Same as “Hang Man” and “Hammers”, Navin calls them exhaustion candles because they represent a dying trend and a very possible market change in direction, the best of times to enter the market.

RULES TO DEFINE AN EXHAUSTION CANDLE:

- The candle must come after a trend
- The tail needs to stick out, long, at least twice as long as the body
- Body must close inside the area of the previous candle

Click the image to open in full size.

- Is it coming in from a trend? An exhaustion candle has to come in after a trend, and that is why they exhaust, the sell or buy rally has exhausted or ended. They do not apply on ranging markets. To identify a trend you need at least 3 candles with lower highs or higher lows, no matter their shape.

- Does the tail stick out? The tail should be long, larger than the candle´s body. The longer the more power the exhaustion candle has to reverse the market. STAY AWAY FROM SHORT TAIL EXHAUSTION CANDLES, they tend to fail.

- Did the body of the exhaustion candle close within the previous candle? This part is tricky as new traders do not define well what is a candle, the body or the body + the tail and wick?? A candle is the whole thing, body + tail + wick.

Also, what is the close? The close is where that candle finished forming. To identify the close, if it is a green candle (buy or bull) the close is the upper part of the body; and if it is a red candle (sell or bear) then the close is the lower part of the candle´s body.

So the close of the exhaustion candle needs to be covered by the entire previous candle.

WHICH DIRECTION SHOULD YOU TRADE?

Pretend the exhaustion candle is an arrow, whichever direction the body (arrow head) is pointing that is where we expect the market to go.

Click the image to open in full size.

WHEN TO ENTER THE PRO TRADING STRATEGY TRADE

Click the image to open in full size.

This is something that is usually missing from the pro trading strategy videos. You want to enter the trade once the following candles break the neck line as shown in the photo.

The neckline is the point of influx, were the trade seems to definitely turn around. To determine the neckline simply draw a line at the highest point of the previous candle from the exhaustion candle.

This gives you confirmation that the exhaustion candle has worked as a new trend indicator.

WHEN TO TAKE PROFIT?

This is another thing that Navin doesn´t go into and you as a trader have to decide what technique to use. Here are some suggestions:

- 2 to 1 Take profit. Set your take profit twice as much as your take loss.
- Take profit at the next Pivot. Use a pivot indicator to visualize were the next pivot is targeted, this is a probable point were the trend might stop and most traders take profit.
- Use Fibonacci targets. Fibonacci gives you two targets, you might want to take half profit at 30% to secure profits and reduce the risk of loss if the trade goes the other way, and half the position on 80% to earn a nice profit overall.
- Define strong Support and Resistance Lines. Knowing how to set Support and Resistance lines is the most important aspect of Forex trading. As Navin himself says “You cannot trade Forex without mastering Support and Resistance lines”.
- Use a combination of all the previous. This way you define your own probable Support/Resistance line based on the congruence of the above indicators.
- In general all of the above work and most of the time they will pinpoint to the same zone location, as is essence they are all Support and Resistance tools.

WHERE TO SET STOP/LOSS?

If the tail is very long set it at its end. You might want to do it 5 or 10 pips more away from the tail just in case. But also take into account a Strong Support or Resistance line that is near the tail. In many occasions after the exhaustion candle shows up the market will continue the trend for a couple more candles before turning around.

*The following tutorial videos by Navin will guide you step by step on the Pro Trading Strategy and will give you enough practice material to master the technique.

Backing Traders

Hey Guys,

I've been trading for almost 7 years, and decided to retire this year after an incredibly successful year.

One of things I struggeled with at the start of my career was not having enough backing. This lead me to take excessive risk in order to push for size.

I want to start backing traders myself - and open up investment to these traders to sophisticated investors. Something similar like Etoro - but alot more professional and less scam.

I was planning on doing something similar to mrtopstep trader - but allow more flexibility and NOT charge for people to do the tests.

I also want to allow FX/Equity and Futures.

If anyone has any interest and is looking to get backed and happy to execute through me to provide a track record please send me a PM.

Kind regards

Norman

Trading experiences

Hello,

I am not sure if I am the only one who has experienced this but I am convinced that Forex companies cheat people by tricking them. I have noticed this several times ad with many Forex service providers. They have a mechanism in their site where they will suddenly swing the figures in the opposite direction to your trade and wipe out the balance in your account and immediately the figures will again switch back to where they were earlier with very little fluctuation. This will happen even more when you try to withdraw your profit or your funds from the account.

I would like to hear your experiences. I you also have noticed something similar, do reply with a few lines outlining your experiences.

Thanks,

Ana

Review: Successful ECN Forex Broker

Most of the people who wanted to find a reliable ECN forex trader always end up with JAFX. Serving more than a thousand clients, the reliability, and efficiency of the team always guarantee a 100% service efficiency. Have been tried them and always they give good results.
I wonder anyone who has been with them too? I am just so overwhelmed with their service. In fact, I have been 6 months but the results are quite very well. They managed my account like a professional and I couldn't ask for more. I am working on my second account right now and hoping it would be the same results.

Who trades for a living? It is possible?

Who trades for a living? I'm tired of stories of trading success pushed by people selling the trading dream to others. This thread is the place for those trade for their livelihood, to keep a roof over their head, food on the table and money in savings for family planning to be known and share their stories.

The scarcity of trading-for-a-living anecdotes as well as the dearth of statistical data suggests no one trades for a living. However the trading dream as it is sold by so many implies the existence of these outliers, therefore if they exist they should self-report here. Please share your trading-for-a-living success stories.

Hi.
I'm new to T2W so this is my first posting.
I've recently been trading binary options through Banc De Binary. I was making a profit, then when i tried to draw my money out my account manager seemed to lose all but a tiny fraction of it. That is my trading history.

My question today is, Is there anybody who is making a profit using any of the many robots out there or are they just a scam. Would love to hear of any porfitable bots, as that's the way i'm wanting to trade in the future.

Thanks in advance.

Dear members,

I am currently putting together a study on how HFT has affected systemic risk in the UK markets since it's conception. I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction in finding a chart that shows the % of trading that HFT accounts for in the UK for each year since 06.

Many Thanks.

Best trading platform for fills

What is the best trading platform for options fills?

I have been getting terrible fills with Ameritrade.

The transaction cost is not only the commission. It includes the bid/ask spread. I need a better bid/ask.

I talked to another options trader and he said to use two or three different interactive brokers and take the best fill.

If you could please provide some names.

Thank you.

Finding a broker for OTC stock

Hey everyone!

I'm new to this forum, so this is my first post. I came across it trying to google brokers and it seemed like a really sensible place to pose my question...

I'm completley new to stocks and shares and to be honest, anything finance based! So, forgive me if I use incorrect terms etc or am a little hazy.

In short, I would like to buy some shares. I want to buy within 1x specific company. I have a small amount of money, around £2k to invest. I was told as the money is small perhaps to do it via my bank as brokers take higher commission but mainly require a far higher minimum spend. I rang my bank and they explained you can apply to do share dealing online with them but on looking into the company, they are in a different market and the bank doesn't trade in the market the company I wish to invest in, is in. The market is called 'over the counter'...

The advisor explained up front he can't help me with this or advise me really but he can tell me it can be tricky finding a broker that trades in this market. I need to google 'OTC brokers UK' to find a specialist or find a standard broker that is willing to do it.

I've started googling but I've already realised this is not as simple as I had first thought...

Does anyone know of any brokers UK/London based who deal in OTC stocks? That might be willing to invest smaller amounts of money? If anyone has any tips or advise for this market also, or has any advice on things that I should look out for/be aware of, that would be super helpful too!

Thank you so much in advance!

U.S. Broker Choices (FXCM Orphan)

I'm an FXCM orphan. Regardless of their shady practices and lies, I have enjoyed trading on their Trading Station platform for years. It is simply the best as far as I am concerned. Now that it is revealed that FXCM has always been a market maker, it seems silly to go looking for a U.S. based broker that is not, as they all are. And actually, I knew this because I do read the details in the client agreements and they specifically state that FXCM may, at their discretion, take the opposite side of your trade. Who cares? Unless you are using ultra tight stops and/or gambling during volatile news periods, it's not an issue.

So now I have done many hours of research, trying to figure out which broker I will go with. I find that there are 2 choices - Gain Capital/Forex.com or Oanda. Any other U.S. based brokerage is really just an introducing broker to one of these two. It's pointless to add a layer to an already expensive spread.

Sure, I could jump through the hoops and spend the money on setting up an offshore corporation (I already trade within my U.S. corporation) but that is so tedious and expensive and the end result is that then my choices would include all the fly-by-night brokerages in various 3rd world countries that don't make me feel secure about my money. I'm not a micro lot trader. I do this for a living.

So what to do? I'll probably go with Forex.com. They seem to be the lesser of the two evils. Their platform is ugly, amateur and the data appears to be slow but it's better than Oanda's. And Oanda nickel and dimes you for everything.

Anyway, I'd be interested in any thoughts on this topic. There are a lot of us that will be searching for alternatives.

Platform to scan for unusual options activity?

Hi,

Anyone has a recommended free platform to scan for unusual options activity?

scanning parameters- historic (x days ago)
1) options volume
2) open interest
3) implied volatility
4) orders filled at bid or ask

There are many paid services out there, mostly piggybacking cboe's paid livevol database. but I figured there must be a brokerage scanner that filters for such parameters for free.

Premium difference between SPX and S&P Mini (ES) option premiums

Hello,

A moment ago, both the SPX and S&P mini (ES) are at prices that match (extremely close) to at the money strikes for their options chains. If I bring up both the ATM put and call for each contract for the same expiry day, the ES premiums are nearly identical, which makes sense. But the SPX puts are way more expensive than their calls.

Why are they this way? Both are European settled.

Thanks for any help.

Why Q1 2017 will be crucial for oil

We’ve had headline news pushing oil prices for more than a year now, in the next 60 days we should have sufficient data to either support the bull theory or the bear theory.

Fundamentals are pretty bad but the market is overlooking them, as stated in 30.01.2017 – Oil is going down on the medium term.

From now, I think we will go from a “news-orented” market to a “fundamental-oriented market”

Yet we have to keep in mind that OPEC (as always) has left the door open to excessive headline manipulation through their “maybe we will extend the cuts, maybe we will cut even more, maybe we won’t” rhetoric.

We will have answers to a lot of questions, most certainly:

1) Production data:

From OPEC – will the cuts be implemented?

From US – large increase in rigs should show significant production increases?

2) The “new technology” argument

For US production we don’t need so many rigs anymore for production to increase ? It will be in the data

3) OPEC / NOPEC cuts and their impact on imports

4-8 weeks for shipping (estimates vary) mean we should start seeing impact either next week in the weeklies or the following weeks – if we see increases due to non-participating OPEC members filling in to grab market share or NOPEC producers (including the newly NOPEC Indonesia) then oil has a problem

4) Predicted increase in US-based consumption post the typical seasonal drag from mid-November through February

5) Trump policy towards Iran

This could be big on both side. Will the US and Iran clash about new missile launches? If tensions increase we could have a new embargo sending oil price to the next level. If nothing, Iran could increase its production and send prices lower.

6) China

The world’s largest potential market manipulator has decreased domestic production from old, duct tape & spit production assets to import cheaper oil, some say filling a strategic reserve, some say fueling teapot refineries allowed some freedom, some say going into non-strategic storage. The point is: they are increasing imports. Will they continue to do so, or cut back to push prices down?

Keep in mind that all data out of China is inherently not credible due to the fact that they lie about everything

7) India

Ramifications of the de-monitization are apparent (through anecdotal evidence) throughout the country – the question is how this (and some rumored excessive legislation regarding gold importing and gold purchasing) will flow out through the economy and crude consumption. In the end, it will most likely be a huge benefit to India, but will the chaos continue for the medium-term?

As a result oil could stop trading sideways and enter a new trend, to the upside or to the downside. I think we could go down but nothing is sure for the moment.

Buying stock in the same company twice - Confused

Hi all,

I know this pretty newbie stuff... Im not sure if this mathematically works out better or worse

so lets say..

Ive bought £500 worth of stock at 50p

Price goes down gradually.

Ive just bought £1000 worth of stock in the same company at 25p - hoping to a small risky profit on this and pull back out.

I thought i would have 2 different holdings but my account has put all the shares together. Giving me an average price.

I can't view the investments as 2 separate ones which was my thought process going into it. Im confused as to how this works.

Buying stock in the same company twice - Confused

SPY/SPX option premium and VIX levels

Hello,

I am seeking an answer to a general lamens term VIX and SPX option premium. We know VIX is a measure of this, but I am not entirely sure on what the number represents and if a doubling really means a doubling of all premiums.

If say for example.

VIX level - 11
S&P ATM option - 1 week to expire
So since it is at the money, it is all time value.

If for example, the VIX was double (22),would the premium for the same option in the exact same scenario be double? Thus all other levels are relative as well.

Thanks for your help
B

picking your first firm

Advice: Energy Trading firm or prop shop

Hi everyone.

Looking for some career advice.
I've been following trading and the market now for about 2 years and slowing but surely becoming more addicted/involved with it.

Im a recent graduate and I've been offered two positions. one at an energy trading firm and another at a prop shop.

Not sure which one to pick.

I see the energy industry as fairly interesting. its Becoming more relevant these days with the shift away from renewables and all the regulation and technology advances that we are seeing as of late.

the energy trading job would be for one of the main generators/suppliers in my country. salary about 30+ but 9-5 working hours or so and a very solid pension/job security aspect.

the prop shop would be 7am-9pm. really bad salary for the first year until you trade live and after that 50/50 split i think moving up to 75/25 ish.

any advice is appreciated.

thanks

Be Wary of Right Line Trading Owned by Mark Sachs

Be very careful doing business with Right Line Trading, RLT owned by Mark Sachs. They gave the following guarantee which is from their ad copy; "To demonstrate our confidence in the system we are now offering the WEBINAR SPECIAL PACKAGE with a two week, no questions asked, money back guarantee" "We take all the risk and we are 100% confident that you will take all the profit."
I only signed up because of the guarantee. If their trading software worked, great. If not I got my money back. The cost of their software was $1699. Their technician set it up on my computer and their server sends the trades to automatically run on my computer. The software is called Transition Zone and it lost money so I requested my money back. The owner, Mark Sachs refused to return my money. When I continued to press him for a refund he wrote quote "If you complain to any organization or demand a refund from Visa I will refer this matter to my attorney to prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law". In summary a simple no strings attached guarantee was given. The software wasn't profitable as he claimed. Mark Sachs would not return my money and he threatened to sue if I went to any authorities or agencies. Its up to you to determine if this is the type of person or company you wish to do business with. On a related note, it is important that traders share experiences, good or bad, about vendors so you can avoid the many software vendors that scam traders and support the vendors that don't

ETF Live calls

OK, I've been hanging around the forum for long enough so time to contribute something 'real' and for a bit of fun

I'm going to make live calls for a selection of around 30 ETFs, I am only paper trading the calls until I prove it's worthwhile then I may go live. Initially I'll try and keep it running for about 4 weeks and see what benefit there is to a public journal.

I am a system trader cos I like sticking to rules, the strategy I'm using is publicly available, there are a few papers published about it, but it doesn't appear to be widely used (or if it is, nobody's admitting to it!), it doesn't appear to have been arbitraged out yet either, see if you can guess the strategy?

Here are the trading rules:
  1. Trades are long only
  2. There are no stops or targets
  3. Signals are generated on the Daily close
  4. Trades are opened and closed at the open
  5. Trades will be published before the open

10-15% correction potential on equities (us) - I go long VIX

Hi guys

Did an analysis recently on a potential opportunity: going long volatility.

http://https://oiltrading.blog/2016/...olatility-vix/

Let me know what tou think about it.

I will add one point here I didnt mention i this article:
We are seeing
-rising rates
-rising dollar
-rising oil

Periode with those three indicators going up occured 7 times since 2000. Each time data (PMI) mainly went down afterwards ànd stock market had a correction.

So I think Long VIX could be a good opportunity now. And despite cost of roll over ànd the price to pay to hold such product (due to contango) I think the timing could be right for Q1 2017

Which Spread bet to open with

Whats a good spreadbet broker/retailer in the UK. That I should be using with sooo many out there.

Whats the best number 1 for retail traders trying to beat the markets.

So for example the equivalent for online poker would be to open an account with Pokerstars.

Who should I be with for spread betting. Can any recommend please?

Also I don't wanna use count downs or sprint markets (binary products, as it simplying enticing me to gamble capital away)..

Thanks

Market Manipulate

Is the Markets Manipulated ? I am new to trading. Every time I place a position. It does the opposite direction, as if there someone pressing a button. Can anyone explain how it works when I spread bet. Am I betting against someone else going in the opposite side or am I just betting on which direction the market will flow?

Does there need to be a lot of volume in my direction for my position to be a winner?

Are the spreadbet companies cheating and manipulating the pricing against me or who is it that is pushing the price against me.

My account is always getting blown up. Even if I go with the trend it suddenly turns ...Any one can help explain would be appreciate.

Market Maker Shares

Hello There, I am new to trading and was looking for some guidance on potential pitfalls while trading market maker shares. I noticed that there are certain shares who have poor volatility and liquidity, often bought from Market makers. Should one follow caution while buying these shares? Is there a 'safe' value of investment one can make into these companies? What else should one bear in mind before investing into these shares?

Thankyou very much for your inputs and guidance.

dbphoenix: trader + sophist or only a sophist?

My question is whether dbphoenix is an actual trader and a consistently profitable trader. He has a history spanning nearly two decades at numerous trading forums, TradersLaboratory, Elitetrader, Futures.io, and here. He was banned from many of these forums, allegedly for violating the terms of service by discreetly soliciting clients for money in exchange for teaching services and not "practicing what he preaches" as per Baron, owner of Elitetrader. Soliciting pupils in exchange for money is the classical definition of a sophist, there is no question that dbphoenix solicits clients for money, my question is: is and was dbphoenix ever an active day trader and position trader or is he only a vendor? Please share your opinion and any evidence you may come across from this vendor's prolific multi-decade posting history on many (now banned) forums.

Which bond Market to Follow?

Hi All,

I just wondered if someone who follows bonds could suggest which chart to follow for the US markets? I am after one that would be ideal for a trader to follow to keep an eye on the overall US bond market.

I see that the top two seem to be used often?

ZB (30 year treasury bond futures)

TLT (20+ year treasury bond ETF)

AGG (iShares Barclays Capital Aggregate Bond Index ETF)

LQD (iBoxx $ Liquid Investment Grade Bond Index ETF)

Many thanks!

Correlation Between Stock and Bond Prices

Hi All,

I wonder if there is anyone on this forum who may be able to shed some light on the above?

I have read that these move in the opposite direction. The reason being that they compete with each other for investment capital. As the economy is expanding and stocks are doing well, people move over to stocks. When the economy slows down and growth is stocks is less promising, people move over to bonds for a fixed return.

This makes sense, but what about when interest rates are changed? If interest rates are lowered, typically this is bullish for the stock market and this will also increase the value of the bond market and so they move together. If interest rates are tightened, this is bearish for stocks and will also lower the value of the bond market.

Isn’t this a contradiction to the age old believe that the instruments are negatively correlated?

I hope someone can answer. This caused me a sleepless night worrying about it!

Thank you
